Meaning of Phrase

I heard this in a song, and I was wondering what it meant.

I tried googling it, and I couldn't find it.

My guess from what I found is that it should mean something hollow (and so a bad connotation) but the song is pretty excited about having a wooden wedding.

I don't know when the song was written. Likely somewhere between 1910-1940 (as the singer's tagline is songs from the 10's, 20's, and 30's).

Adam suggested that it meant the fifth wedding anniversary.

But that didn't seem to fit, because the song seemed to relate to an actual WEDDING, not an anniversary of a wedding. Maybe I need to listen to it, but I don't think that I can write the lyrics because I bet that they are copywrited.

Here is a song, maybe the same one you heard.

http://irishlyrics.homestead.com/files/cla...den_wedding.txt

I get the idea that the song envisions a wedding where, presumably for economic reasons, guests are to bring presents made of wood. here is part:

Now the first one to get there was Tim O’Hoolihan,

he brought for a present a Japanese fan

then came Maloney just as neat as a pin

he brought a cradle for to rock the baby in

O’Brien brought a sawhorse handsomely engraved

O’Toole brought a cord of wood for which he didn’t pay

Murphy brought the clothespins and Ryan brought a broom

and it looked as though a lumberyard exploded in the room

So perhaps a wedding blessed by joy but with little money. Although as the song continues things get a bit out of hand!
