Partner's suit. It's not as if we have an attractive alternative.

The last time I didn't lead partner's suit from a singleton on this auction, it cost a vulnerable game swing.

Easy diamond. I have 6 points so either partner has opened light on third seat with a good suit or opps are in a 23> point 3NT when it shouldn't make big difference as long as we don't lead a club. (Which might be their long suit if they have one)

how many would automatically lead partners suit; When in effect Declarer has said he/she controls that suit

Well, if you are phrasing this as a general question, lots of people.

Just because they've shown a stop in the suit doesn't mean that it's not the right lead if partner has a good suit and a couple of entries.

For example, if the auction goes

P 1C P 1D

1S 1NT P 3NT

I would lead a spade almost without looking at my hand, as partner's overcall here is often purely for the lead.

The problem on the auction given is that when partner opens 1D, that's not immediately purely for lead directional purposes, and he could have Qxxx of diamonds and AKJx of hearts. So I'm not claiming here that a diamond is provably the right lead, or that a different lead might work - this is a horrible guess. The problem is that we have no idea what other suit to lead - any of the other suits could butcher the hand. And as others have pointed out, we have so many high cards that partner is likely to have opened light, so therefore is likely to have a good diamond suit.

If opps have full values for their game bid, partner made a somewhat light opening in third seat, and will have a good suit.

If opps haven't got full values, dummy often will come down with long clubs.

I wan't pick among the two open major suits, any of them could be very costly, and it's a pure guess to hit the right one - if there is one. So I'm going for partner's suit.
