jdonn
This hand came up for me in a best hand robot race tourney, and I found a really cool theme I hadn't seen or thought of before. [hv=d=s&v=n&n=sjxxhq98dkjxcajxx&s=saktxhkxxdaxxckqx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] I was south, I opened 2NT, partner bid 4NT and I ended it with 6NT. It was automatic since this was the last hand I would have time to play and I was about 800 points out of the money. Anyway on to the play. LHO leads a medium sized heart, you play the 8 and RHO wins the ace and returns a club. You win in hand, play the ace of spades, and then play two more rounds of clubs ending in dummy. Clubs break 3-3, and next you lead a low spade from dummy in case RHO has just the Q left. The 10 of spades holds, you play off the K of spades and LHO pitches a heart. You are now down to these cards with RHO holding the master spade over yours. [hv=d=s&v=n&n=sjxxhq98dkjxcajxx&s=saktxhkxxdaxxckqx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] You need the rest of the tricks. What's your plan for the rest of the handA: Against human opponents?B: Against GIB opponents?
awm
Against humans, it seems normal to cash winners ending with a spade and ♦Ax in hand and ♦KJx in dummy. Now I have to decide whether to play diamonds from the top (hoping RHO squeezed) or take a diamond finesse. I can probably get a count on the hearts and use it to decide who started with more diamonds, playing that person for the diamond queen. Against GIB, if the squeeze is actually working it seems odds on that GIB will do something silly like pitch the last spade or play the ♦Q when I lead a diamond from dummy towards my ace (after all there is no double dummy way declarer could go wrong as the cards lie so GIB will play me for different cards). So if nothing funny like this happens it's probably right to take a diamond finesse.
Free
I'll just play ♥K, ♥Q and ♣A, no matter my opponents. Btw, if RHO doesn't discard his ♠, I will, keeping ♦KJx vs Axx. Against humans you might discover RHO is squeezed by hesitations.
pigpenz
just seems weird that east didnt have a different hard to play besides the ace at trick one
Ant590
Against humans you might discover RHO is squeezed by hesitations. In my experience the more GiB thinks, the more a squeeze is likely.

In my experience the more GiB thinks, the more a squeeze is likely. I completely disagree, in fact I believe there is no correlation at all. I often notice GIB take a long time to play when deciding between small cards, because where a human knows it makes no difference which is played GIB has to run a bunch of sims to find out. Free
So Josh, how well did you know GIB? :P
jdonn
Well Adam pretty much got it. I played the hearts and discovered diamonds were lho 3 rho 4, so the odds were the squeeze over the finesse. But when I played a diamond off dummy, rho played the queen! Obviously to GIB it only makes a difference when his partner has the ace. So I believe the 4 to 3 odds should be ignorred and the finesse taken if GIB doesn't pop up with the queen in a situation like this.
