1eyedjack
I am missing something, but don't yet get the point being made. No, I don't get excited by the 4H bid, and rightly so, as we seem to be making 5D on the nose with the fortuitous 3-3 Club break. vang
what do you mean by "excited"? i won't bid 6D with zero cover cards and i can't pass 4H, so i feel excited and bid 5D...
P_Marlowe
Why should I? I am dead. I am bidding 5D, because partner forced me,for that matter he bid the game all by himself. Of course I have no wastage, no wonder, butthat is not surprinsing, if you are broke. With kind regardsMarlowe
hotShot
I knew that I don't have (wasted) points before, I don't see any ruffs on my side. Why should I get exited?I'm forced to bid 5♦ and I will do exactly that.

maggieb
In my short time on these forums, I have seen a lot of useless posts, but this one is really amazing to me. The fact that it is in the advanced/expert forum is even more amazing to me. I don't know what you are aiming at, but Roger is right, there is nothing remotely curious, advanced, expert, interesting, or anything about this hand. North had an easy 2♣ opener and west had an easy pass of 1♦, but that is about the extent of the interest regarding this hand. If the curiosity was to create the most unanimous thread of all time, then this may do it. First you are trying to construct a hand that passes 2♦ multi and then balances with 3N, then you think there is something cool about this hand. OleBerg, your curiosities have nothing to do with bridge.

maggieb
I mean, are you eventually going to reveal what you find curious about this decision? I am eager to see what was so curious about this that evaded all the posters in this thread.

OleBerg
I mean, are you eventually going to reveal what you find curious about this decision? I am eager to see what was so curious about this that evaded all the posters in this thread. The curiosity is, that there are two other ongoing threads discussing splinters, including discussions of how excited you get, when you have no wastage facing a singleton. The actual South-player also found it slightly entertaining, that 5♦ was a winner. As for the North hand being an "easy 2♣ opener", that could actually merit some discussion among experts. My post would give a subtle clue, but I'll be gracious and reveal it: Some players might choose to open 1♦ on the hand.
Codo
I find at very curious how many posts you got with the comment how useless this thread is. I cannot understand why somebody bothers to write this. It is not that I disagree, but when I find something annoying or boring or waste of space, I simply ignore this thread. The second curiosity is that you are close to make a slam opposite a near yarb with 24 HCPs. And the third curisity was that south well judged, that slam would need a fourth trump in his hand.I think with ♠ 1086 ♥ 652 ♦ T964 ♣ 976 he had envisoned the power of his hand and bid the laydown slam. Nice judgement. Thanks for sharing this gem. :) Besides: I think that opening this hand with 1 Diamond is to take a good idea a little too far. If you need just a good fitting yarb. to make a slam, you should take another opening. And I doubt that many experts will open this hand with 1 Diamond. Well Fantunes will... OleBerg
I think with ♠ 108♥ 8652 ♦ 9642 ♣ J76 he had envisoned the power of his hand and bid the slam. FYP. :D
