Lobowolf
So, after another fun day of working and participating in the BBO Forums, I was on my way home when I got a phone call from my girlfriend, who got home (same house) before I did, and was calling to let me know that our house had been broken into. Could have been worse, but they did get a few things that are particularly annoying.
JoAnneM
You do this stuff while at work? Time to get a monitored alarm system. We did after two break-ins. No trouble since.
Al_U_Card
So it was the monitoring company that had done the break-ins? (It works for the anti-virus crowd....)
pclayton
Sorry Dan to hear about this. Its usually the violation of privacy that hurts more than the stuff missing.

PassedOut
Argh! I know how terrible that is! My home was burgled twice when I was a young man. The first time the thief set fires while inside, and I was not not able to move back in for several weeks. Curiously, I was playing in a local regional at the time, and a director called me aside between rounds and told me that my house "had burned down." (That message distracted me, and I did not play well for the rest of the afternoon. When I got home between sessions, I saw that the damage was repairable and felt a lot better -- had a good evening round.) My wife, who had gotten off work, decided to take a room in a nice hotel, but she had no luggage and a local address, so the suspicious clerk would not rent her a room. She thought that was hilarious. After that burglary, I put in unbreakable windows everywhere as a defensive measure. Then, a couple of years later on Labor Day someone smashed through the back doors with a heavy maul and stole more stuff. Since then, I've never had a problem, even when we moved to another city where we were the only white family living in a black neighborhood. Anyway, I feel your pain! :)
keylime
I am very sorry for not just the property loss, but for feeling so vulnerable and exposed. It's a horrible feeling. And I thought my car accident last night was bad (nice dent, in my 4 month old car, left driver rear door...).....
gwnn
I don't know the exact feeling, but I've been mugged before, and it isn't my most favoured memory. Very sorry to hear about this :) I hope you get back at least part of the stuff they took away.
y66
Bummer. Thanks for posting this. It's time I looked into some sensible precautions for my place. I have foiled 2 burglaries in progress in my neighborhood. Both times the cops caught the crooks red-handed. Been lucky so far myself.
