Elianna
I don't know how they judge some of those things. I mean, say you have the statement "I think people talk about cats too much". And you have to agree/disagree etc. Since I have NO idea how that would be related to economics, I have to assume it's related to authoritarian/libertarian. But the question seems to imply that you then would make the leap to say "I think people talk about cats too much and we should ban that". And I have no idea how one reacts to astrology affects how authoritarian/libertarian you are. There were several other questions that just seemed wierd. I don't want to post them in case others want to go in with an open mind. Anyway, I have: Economic: 1.62Social Issues: -1.
cherdano
Yeah a lot of questions are very weird:economic left/right: -2.88social libertarian/authoritarian: -7.03 I didn't realize I am an anarchist.
Mbodell
I've moved a small amount further from the origin than when I last took the test. I blame Bush. I also find that on most of the questions I tend to answer the extreme agree/disagree rather than the middle ones which may help explain the amount of skew I have. Your political compass Economic Left/Right: -8.00Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.44 I do like being in the quadrant of Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and The Dalai Lama. Elianna
Looks like you guys should have voted for Ralph Nader Not me, I seem to not have had a candidate. :) Even looking at the international chart on the bottom of where they give your results, my quadrant seems sadly empty. :(

david_c
-3.75, -1.28 Seems strangely calibrated to me - I've usually managed to get a plus score on the social issues in these things.

helene_t
Left/Right: 1.25. So next to Elianna, Jimmy and I are the most right-winged here so far. Similar to Hitler (talking about good company, lol). Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.41 So I am towards libertarian, but nowhere near as consequent as Cherdano and Mbodell (and not quite as much as Richard/Tim/y66). Edit: now did it again more carefouly and came at -0.50;-5.49 Interestingly, almost all the famous people plotted on the website are on the authoritarian side, while almost everybody here is on the libertarian side. I wonder if people become more authoritarian as they reach authoritative status themselves? Or maybe it is somehow easier to take the libertarian position when one does not have political responsibilities? Btw, I once worked for a company making computer software of this kind, for job applicant assessment. Some of the simplest summary statistics were:masculine/feminine: men are supposed to answer "disagree" to most questions and women to answer "agree". This is not caused by a bias in the way the questions are phrased: when the questions are reversed for half of the panel, there will be excess agreeing females and excess disagreeing males in both halves. The owner of the company lost interest in the software after it told him that he was extremely feminine and his wife extremely masculine. FWIW I was found to be a hermaphrodite. Age: Youngsters are supposed to take extreme positions while old people take moderate positions. I was 19 back then, it estimated my age to be 55. But most people were judged accurately. Analytical/creative: I was surprised to be judged rather extreme to the "creative" side, unlike most computer nerds. I must have some undiscovered talents. As Elianna notes, our quadrant is quite empty. We have Gravel (never heard about him, he appears to be a democrat who turned libertarian) and Friedman in the neighborhood, but both of them are in the NorthEast part of the quadrant. MickyB
-3.75, -3.9 Looking at the phrasing of the questions, it doesn't surprise me that the majority are coming out very negative.
helene_t
The site displays a very strong correlation between authoritarian and right-winged. But everyone perceive himself as pro-freedom. I wonder if this is really so. Or if it reflects that the authors of the site are libertanian/leftwinged. matmat
I think this sort of questionaire is difficult to design. The questions have to often be non-obvious to the person taking the test, so as to not invoke the following thought process: "this question is trying to gauge how I feel about X""I want others to think that I lean left in regard to X""which answer best suits that conclusion?""oh. ok. this one. click"
