gnasher
If partner's sequence shows slam interest, it's clear to bid 6♦. I prefer to have two ways to show a major and a minor, one showing slam interest and the other not. Without that agreement, I think partner's sequence should show slam interest. On partner's actual hand, I'd have shown a 4-6 slam try, however you do that in your methods.
keylime
I'm playing pard for a huge 5-5 or 5-6 hand. If not for 5NT, pick a slam, 6♦, and say "you're welcome".
kenrexford
I don't get it. Responder has a HUGE hand and only bids 5♦ after Opener cues spades? I don't think the error is Opener's. Sure, he has three Aces, which is nice, but his hand is not all that impressive. One of the side Aces probably is meaningless, as Responder usually has a void somewhere. Opener only has one internal honor. Sure, this is nice, but 4♠ says Opener has a nice hand. IMO, Responder should have bid more than 5♦. han
Agree with Ken, I don't understand why responder didn't cue 5C.
cherdano
Agree with Ken, I don't understand why responder didn't cue 5C. Responder thought that opener had denied a heart control. (I don't agree with that, 4♥ should be a suggestion to play, but I am sure that's what responder must have thought.)
han
Another possibility: responder is English and only cues aces?
kenrexford
Another possibility: responder is English and only cues aces? That's possible, but then 4NT should be some sort of hedge bump of some sort, no?
cherdano
Another possibility: responder is English and only cues aces? Then responder should bid 4N RKCB to find out whether partner has the ♣A. :)
han
I think 4NT as hedge bumb is standard.
kenrexford
I think 4NT as hedge bumb is standard. I like the spelling your way better. LOL
han
OK then, I'll pretend it was on purpose.
whereagles
another obvious 6D bid, more worried of missing 7 than going down in 6.
gnasher
Another possibility: responder is English and only cues aces? Or maybe he was American and thought that 5C would be a sort of RKCB-Last Train hybrid? That seems more likely than that one of my compatriots would have transferred to hearts with this hand. jdonn
Another possibility: responder is English and only cues aces? Or maybe he was American and thought that 5C would be a sort of RKCB-Last Train hybrid? If that's what he thought 5♣ means (last train, as obviously rkcb is ridiculous to suggest), it would have been a perfect bid!
gnasher
I hadn't realised that a necessary condition for playing something as RKCB was that it not be ridiculous.
