ardf10987
I saw this hand. All red, West dealer:W..... N..... E..... S.....1♥... pas. pas... 1♠2♠... pas. 3♥..... 3♠pas. pas. DBL... paspas. pas. This was the layout:[hv=d=w&v=b&n=sq7h106dqj10754cj64&w=s3hakqj532dk8ca73&e=s10642h984da92c1082&s=sakj985h7d63ckq95]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Result was 3♠ X and made. West thought to have show a limited hand (opening 1♥), one suited (2♠), without too much defence (pass on 3♠). Est thought to have show a minimum hand, ♥ fit, and some values (dbl). Someone think best bid, not made at the table, was 3♠ over 1♠. Someone think 2♠, bid made at the table, is two suiter or three suiter... Someone doesn't think... How would you have bid? jdonn
I would focus all of the blame on east. First of all 3♥ is a huge underbid if you think of what partner is showing. It should be an easy 4♥ bid. And what in the world made him double?? He just blew his chance to make the 4♥ bid he should have made a round earlier. And don't even get me started on east passing the opening bid... Some other decisions such as 1♠ and 2♠ were not so clearcut, but certainly not awful. P_Marlowe
#01 3H certainly does not show the fit. Why should it?#02 I dont like 2S, what speaks against 3H? Make life easy for your partner, tell partner that you have a good hand (well, ... 2S did this) and that you have a suit, you can play without help (2S did not tell this).#03 I prefer 2S instead of 1S, but playing in a pick up partnership (?!), there is nothing wrong with 1S. Which is the worst bid?I vote for 2S, I hate cue bids, if you have a clear alternative, so I am certainly biased. With kind regardsMarlowe PS: #03 corrected
cherdano
Don't pass with a fit and an ace! After the first pass, East should realize he has a HUGE hand in context. 2♠ says opener still has game interest despite East's pass, and his hand absolutely could not be better. 3♥ is the worst bid of the auction by far. East should realize that the bidding lesson one "We pass with less than 6 hcp because we can't have game" is only an approximation, game is very much possible if parnter has a distributional hand. hotShot
1♠<3♥<<dbl And the winner is East.
matmat
i would not sit down opposite this east at a bridge table, if given a choice. 1) doesn't support partner2) when he finally does, does so with a craptastic 3♥3) doubles 3s with a fit and bad trump under the ♠ bidder
matmat
1♠<3♥<<dbl And the winner is East. are your signs reversed?
benlessard
I like to play that 3H is preemptive style and that 2S show that game is still in reach. Over 2S 2Nt half a stop.3C K/QQ3D K3H nothing.3S splinter at least 3H.3NT stopper.4C A4D AA fairly rare sequence.
jtfanclub
How do you pick more than one option?
ardf10987
I don't think you can take more then one option, voting. But you can list them writing... Added P.S.I asked some strong player the meaning of 2♠. Pls note it was only one opinion (I don't know too much strong players, apparently...). :( He confirmed me it shows (in his system, anyway) a strong one-suiter... I now fear asking someone else...
