kgr
[hv=d=s&v=n&s=skxxxhdakqjxxxcxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP1D-(2C)-DBL-(RDBL)???[/hv]I don't know Souths exact hand, but he had a good 7 card ♦, a 4 card ♠, 2 ♣'s and 13 HCP.What do you bid with Souths hand after the given bidding?(You play 5-cards M and 4 card ♦ and the DBL is negative. Opps have no agreement about REDBL).
ASkolnick
3♦, non-forcing, I have a good hand with diamonds.
helene_t
I suppose the strong pass-and-pull applies here? Or would pass be a suggestion to defend 2♣? Anyway, agree with 3♦.
P_Marlowe
3D, I agree. Dont fool around, tell partner that you havea good hand with lots of diamonds. With kind regardsMarlowe
kgr
I also like 3♦, but aren't you afraid that you have never find a ♠ fit anymore if you have one. What about 3♠ iso 3♦?(How do you rate 3♦, 2♠, 3♠?)

The risk exists, but the risk is only relevant, ifwe miss game. The problem with 2S is, that it is an underbid, it basically says you have a min opener, and most likely you are bal., partner will assumeyou have a 4432 shape. 3S is certainly not an underbid, but risks playinga stupid partial with no fit.The neg. X does not gurantee 4 spades. It may well be, that partner has a weak two in hearts, and was forced to make a neg. X, becausehe was not able to bid 2H. So I prefer 3D, followed by 3S, and a distant third is 2S. With kind regardsMarlowe

effervesce
Wouldn't have had this problem. 7-4 hands I open game-in this case, 5♦.
benlessard
4S here. Partner didnt promise both majors so 4S imply D good enough to play at the 5 level. However Its setup FP, and depending on your opening style partner may think you have 6D and 5S and decide to pass 4S with a 3 carder. With 5-6 and without strong D i prefer to open 1M but im in the minority here.
kgr
My partner did bid 2♠ and the bidding conitnued:1♦-(2♣)-DBL-(REDBL)2♠-(3♣)-Pass-(Pass)4♦-All pass- - 4♦ made +3. I had 3=4=4=2 with 8 HCP. (Probably partners ♠'s were better and his ♦'s less solid. Don't see how he could make 7 otherwise).

Without knowing your hand, it's impossible to say whether you had a better bid than a simple raise to 5D.

I guess that both hands were (reconstructed with knowledge that 7D makes, one hand was 7-4 with 13 HCP and the other had 8 HCP):AQxx=v=AKTxxxx=xxKJx=xxxx=xxx=Ax ...Actually it was not IMP's but MP's. Because my partner first limited his hand with 2S, I was a bit surprised by his 4D bid and I passed it because I could not imagine 5D making.Probably 2S is an underbid, but still I should not have passed 4D with my hand even at MP's (Probability that 4D is the good contract is low anyway).
