Red vs white at IMPs

Pass - (1NT) - X - (2)

X - (Pass) - ?

1nt = 11-14

X = Penalty, does not establish a force.

2 = Natural, to play.

X = Take out, promises some values. At least something like 6 hcp.

I hope you'll post the full hands later showing 3NT was ok on those specific boards and proving everyone else except you should "get straightjacket and sedatives ASAP" ;-)

Something like it. I will post the full hands later.

Some of them did roll home, but on all hands, one or more of the Non-3NT-bids would definately be considered the sane choice.

Is there some reason we can't bid 2NT?

If we are not passing the double for penalties but bidding NT, it must be on the basis of a long suit.

(Actually, for me 2NT would be offering partner a choice of minor suit partscores, which is quite a good reason not to bid it. But I thought I'd float it as a suggestion...)

Anyway, I don't see the need to bid 3NT here, given that we are fairly minimum for our double, and 3D surely shows at least 5 of them (particularly if 2NT is choice of contract). I'd rather have something resembling a strong likelihood of 9 tricks to bid 3NT... how about the same hand with the Ace of spades in addition?
