If you respond 1♠, partner rebids 1NT. What now? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
pclayton Posted November 7, 2008 Report Share Posted November 7, 2008 1♠. No problem yet. 2♠ if playing SJS. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Echognome Posted November 7, 2008 Report Share Posted November 7, 2008 These "how to bid with a pickup partner" problems are brutal. So let's see, I'll start with 1♠ because my pickup partner might pass 2♠ thinking it's weak. Over my partner's 1NT, I would worry that partner would pass any bid I make. I guess to bid 2♦ and hope that partner plays that as forcing (even better if partner plays that as artificial and game forcing). But everything is a guess of course. rogerclee Posted November 7, 2008 Report Share Posted November 7, 2008 I would bid 4C and go to slam opposite 3 and stop in 4 opposite 2. Not very pretty but I think slam rates to be good opposite 3 aces (HA is not useless), and rates to be bad opposite 2 aces, and further I don't feel like I will ever have a confident auction that produces better results than that since we don't know what we play. helene_t Posted November 7, 2008 Report Share Posted November 7, 2008 I would sign off in 4♠ Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

andy_h Posted November 8, 2008 Report Share Posted November 8, 2008 Playing with a BBO pick-up? 1S then 4S. I'm not going to bid anything else to avoid confusion. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
H_KARLUK Posted November 8, 2008 Report Share Posted November 8, 2008 4 NT. Winner takes all. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
jikl Posted November 8, 2008 Report Share Posted November 8, 2008 I wish I could bid 1♦ here in some ways to find out about ♥s and potential wastage there. However, after the inevitable 1♠ bid I would bid 3♦ as a pretend suit and then make it up as I go along from there. Sean Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
EricK Posted November 8, 2008 Report Share Posted November 8, 2008 2♠ usually followed by either a bid in ♣ or a plaintive cry of "surely WJS aren't standard?!" Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
manudude03 Posted November 10, 2008 Author Report Share Posted November 10, 2008 I ended up taking Jikl's route and ended up taking a risk and blasting 6C, only to see partner run at the first sign of X :lol:. After that, things didn't exactly get prettier. Don't remember partner's hand exactly (and I left before the bloodshed began), but it was something like: [hv=d=n&v=n&n=sxhqjxxdajxca8xxx&s=skqjt98hdktxckq97]133|200|Scoring: XIMP1♣-(P)-1♠-(P)1NT-(P)-3♦-(P)3NT-(P)-6♣-(X)6♦-(P)-6♠-(X)6NT-(P)-P-(X)AP[/hv] 6 black are decent slams, but go off with clubs being 4-0. effervesce Posted November 10, 2008 Report Share Posted November 10, 2008 I ended up taking Jikl's route and ended up taking a risk and blasting 6C, only to see partner run at the first sign of X :unsure:. After that, things didn't exactly get prettier. Don't remember partner's hand exactly (and I left before the bloodshed began), but it was something like: <!-- NORTHSOUTH begin --><table border=1> <tr> <td> <table> <tr> <td>Dealer:</td> <td> North </td> </tr> <tr> <td>Vul:</td> <td> N/S </td> </tr> <tr> <td>Scoring:</td> <td> XIMP </td> </tr> </table> </td> <td> <table border='1'> <tr> <th> <table> <tr> <th class='spades'>♠</th> <td> x </td> </tr> <tr> <th class='hearts'>♥</th> <td> QJxx </td> </tr> <tr> <th class='diamonds'>♦</th> <td> AJx </td> </tr> <tr> <th class='clubs'>♣</th> <td> A8xxx </td> </tr> </table> </th> </tr> <tr> <th> <table> <tr> <th class='spades'>♠</th> <td> KQJT98 </td> </tr> <tr> <th class='hearts'>♥</th> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <th class='diamonds'>♦</th> <td> KTx </td> </tr> <tr> <th class='clubs'>♣</th> <td> KQ97 </td> </tr> </table> </th> </tr> </table> </td> <td> 1♣-(P)-1♠-(P)1NT-(P)-3♦-(P)3NT-(P)-6♣-(X)6♦-(P)-6♠-(X)6NT-(P)-P-(X)AP </td> </tr> </table><!-- NORTHSOUTH end --> 6 black are decent slams, but go off with clubs being 4-0. The 3♦ bid sounded too much like a 5-5. 2♦, then bidding clubs, then bidding 6♣ would probably stop partner converting to diamonds - as well as indicating your heart shortage if 2♦ was natural, stopping partner from running to NT. gwnn Posted November 10, 2008 Report Share Posted November 10, 2008 Sorry but 6NT makes no sense from partner. That said, neither does 3♦. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
P_Marlowe Posted November 10, 2008 Report Share Posted November 10, 2008 I ended up taking Jikl's route and ended up taking a risk and blasting 6C, only to see partner run at the first sign of X :(. First of all: There is no reason for leaving, if I hada partner, who would bid like this and left, he wouldbe finished for me.I can stand misunderstandings, I can stand errors,but I cant stand it, if the guy makes problematic bidsand runs afterwards. That said, 6 NT is stupid, 3D ill advised. With kind regardsMarlowe Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
