pld do NOT disturb :)

Recommended Posts

Would be nice to have a 'DND' button (DO NOT DISTURB), preferably in some bright repelling colour, which shows in Lobby on your own nick-tag, and which 1) stops inbound messages; 2) politely informs the sender that the message will not be delivered until the person is back to non-DND mode; 3) nice sound track, from, say, Apocalypse Now B) Pet-peeve Britney Spears would do nicely for repeated offenders; 4) prevents you from being vacuumed into a Teams' Match you didn't know exists.

Would be handy when playing, or attending a lesson, or flirting with your favourite partner.

In order to inform others that you are not at the computer currently, you can right click on your own name when at a table or left click when in the lobby and check the "be right back" box near the top of your profile. Anybody who sends you a message then will be informed that maybe you do not see it.

An if you really do not want any messages at all, you can log in as invisible.

Having these possibilities, I do not see any need for another function that is close to this.

Yes, but if you login as invisible, then we never find Misho because he's always invisible... :( I think it's a good idea, and when you're in a tourney it should be automatic DND. "Be Right Back" is silly when you are playing at a table.

Or simply disable all chat. - You do so in your profile.

Chat to players in tournaments software aut. disable chat to. I don't like this way to be shut out from friends. - But that's another story.

The problem is not to set the options - but to remember to switch back into normal mode.

Doesn't help when you are playing while BRB. Great function but don't think it solves the problem at hand.

Well... Actually what gave me the courage to write about it was when a couple of days ago a fellow invisible kib at a teaching session missent this to table chat:

xxxxxx: but please listen to this carefully - i dont learn because i am always talking to people , that is why im invisible

Or simply disable all chat. - You do so in your profile.

Tested it today. There are some problems with it, however:

1) Disabling all chat doesn't display in any way - eg. in the profile, on the Lobby tag etc.

2) People sending the messages get no notification that the message isn't delivered. Unleash your imagination...

3) Minor problem but still - outbound messages get through but are not registered in the chat window.

4) Disabling all chat beats the purpose in case you just want to stop private messages; that would disable table talk (if playing), vugraph commentary or lecture text.

I do think it would be friendlier if people can see right away that someone is in DND and not waste bandwidth trying to contact him/her.

Thanks for the suggestion, Csdenmark - I certainly will do so when I get to comment the next Bermuda! :)) And I am sure Uday will be happy to have split-personality ID's double the size of his database...

Until then, however, I was wondering if it would be too great a hassle adding a second tick box under the BRB box on the user's profile - very much similar to BRB, too, in that it would display the DND instead of BRB and a message to the sender "User is not able to receive private messages at the moment" or smth along those lines. I give up on the Britney Spears and the neon nick tag... For the time being, anyway...

Wouldn't be bringing it up at all if I didn't think it's not just my problem tho.

Very nice idea ,everybody may need it in time ,DND button could be done like BRB check ,totally agree with Lexica ,and will be easy to use instead of saying do this ,do that, take a new nick etc...THNX to Lexica for this fast solution to people who doesnt want to be disturbed sometime.I wish to see a DND button or check on this powerfull software. :D

:D A DO NOT DISTURB button

Oh my word !!! how I would LOVE a Do Not Disturb button :D

I would cherish a Do Not Disturb Button.

Lexica you are brilliant - that is the BEST idea I have come across :D

PLEASE, please , please Fred/Uday can you make a Do Not Disturb Button.

To think that I could have played two (2 !!!!) hands at Cascade's Acol session IF - IF ONLY - there had been a DO NOT DISTURB button.

Invisible - one is still tracked down , you're not invisible at a table anyway, and if you are at a table you are lit up like a Xmas tree !! - in brilliant white !

Ignoring All Chat - not much point going to a lesson then!

BRB - merely saves the sender from the expectation of an immediate reply - does not exempt one from having to reply to the scrolling, scrolling list of those awaiting one's return.

Oh !! but to have a DO NOT DISTURB (DND) button :D -

I shall dream of that day - please say that day will come !!

  • 3 weeks later...

:( OK, I give up... After one month on an invisible strike (you are very right, Maureen, it doesn't help - and on top of it all you have to explain why you are invisible, too! making matters worse...)

So I registered one nick for watching Vugraph and attending lessons. Hope to be able to register in BIL with that, adding more unproductive noise to Maureen's list, inventing a fake identity and supplying a fake email. But I guess it would still be easier than explaining the concept of "privacy" and the need to respect it.

Blue morning... :(
