If you are south, how would you have acted?

South's bidding is ok for me, or did north's 3♣ promise some spades as well?

In that case south should have bid 4♠.

 

But what is West doing?

First a simple raise and bid game second time around.

Did he realise the full value of his club void?

Selling out to 4♥ is absurd to me. I would have bid 3♥ to try to catch a 3♠ bid by partner, and if not, bid 5♣.

I also would not sell out to 4H. 4C seems too little but it worked out well since now I can bid 4S and partner will be able to make an educated choise between the black suits.

V/NV this had been a 2 Spade bid not just 1 Spade from me.

 

And I try 4 Spade instead of pass.

I would bid this hand to 4 spades or 5 clubs (I think we can assume at least a 2 card spade fit with partners club bid). I like Jdonn's idea of bidding 4 hearts - which allows partner to choose which strain.

Josh I think this is an overbid. I assume you would play 4♠ by partner would be a suggestion to play, so you are really forcing partner to a lot of tough decisions on borderline slam hands which we obviously do not want to cooperate with. I think partner has the right to expect a better hand than this (the ♠A instead of the ♠K makes this hand much much better), and I think you will agree that 5♣ will go down more often than 6♣ will make. If you play 4N here is last train (it should be), then 4♥ has more merit, but I still think it is an overbid.

Also, how happy would you be if Pard passes 4♣? (Answer: not very).

 

I think I like Josh's splinter. Pard can easily give us a doubleton preference on the way to 5♣.

Instead of 4C I'd bid 3H. 4C is pessimistic and after that we can't easily play in 4S if that is the place to be. I think even 4H splinter is better than 4C.
