P_Marlowe
2S. It is either 2S or 3S, but since I dont believe, that 4S will have a lot of play most of the timeI go low. With kind regardsMarlowe
InTime
2S Partner is a passed hand, have probably values in clubs which is duplication.
pclayton
2♦, make a plan later. Agree. 2♦ should be a frequent choice when we have a full opening bid as an overcaller opposite a 1N response. Our 'plan' will largely be based on on what partner bids. han
If you bid 2D then partner bids 2H.
pclayton
If you bid 2D then partner bids 2H. This 12 count just became huge. Even slam is possible opposite something like: Ax Kxxx, xxx, Axxx. I will splinter over 2♥.
han
If you splinter, partner signs off in 4H.

han
This 12 count just became huge. Even slam is possible opposite something like: Ax Kxxx, xxx, Axxx. How do you plan to play it? I would win the diamond lead, cash a high heart from hand and cross to dummy in hearts. Now club ace for a diamond pitch. Then ace and another spade. If they are 2-2 then you can claim. If 3-1 then you have to hope that the person with long spades has 2 hearts. Of course you have no chance if herts are 4-1 or spades 4-0. I think looking for slam is too much btw, figuring out the best (if any) game will be hard enough.
gnasher
3♠. Even opposite wastage in the minors, 4♠ will often still be good. eg xx Kxx Kxxx Kxxx. I'm not at all interested in playing in hearts.

gnasher
I doubt this crappy minimum moves over 3♠ Gnasher. I'd like to be able to show a 3♠ bid that needs heart cards, but I'm not sure that I can. Maybe 2♦-2♠-3♥ would do the job. Why don't you want to play to play in hearts? You even have a little protection against a tap.Have you tried constructing a hand where 4♥ is better than 4♠?
han
Have you tried constructing a hand where 4♥ is better than 4♠?This was my thought as well. I bid 4S since I didn't think partner would have much of a clue when to bid 4 and not to. Partner had - ♥Kxxx ♦Qxxx ♣KJxxx, spades split 4-2 so I was down 1. jdonn
1 - I was partner (and I'm not proud of my 1NT bid).2 - I have always played and will always play that 2♦ is NATURAL on this auction.
han
You never told me what you would have bid with my hand Josh. 3S?
pclayton
Have you tried constructing a hand where 4♥ is better than 4♠? x, KJxx Qxxx KQTx? x xxxxx Kxx AQJx? Our biggest tap threat is in clubs, not diamonds. Sometimes LHO leads the opening bidder's suit.
gnasher
x, KJxx Qxxx KQTx? x xxxxx Kxx AQJx? Yes, very nice. I was expecting you to proffer a hand with five hearts, but the other one is quite impressive.
