whereagles
Hi all. It's MPs, NV vs V and you hold: ♠ KJT8xx♥ x♦ xx♣ 98xx Pard RHO you1♥ .. 2♦ .. ?? Options are:Dbl = negative. Dbl + spades are bid later is NF.Pass = doh!2♠ = forcing, usually 10+ hcp, but not 100% GF. (e.g. rebid 3♠ = NF.) Will you risk a lightish negative dbl or do you prefer to pass for the moment? mr1303
I pass, mostly because of the singleton heart. Reverse my red suits and I will bid (at these colours)
han
Why does heart length matter, aren't you going to bid spades next anyway? Maybe it is the diamond length that matters more, the longer they are, the more comfortably you can be passing. I think I also pass but it is close. 655321
I would double, it seems a pity to make no effort to show spades.
rogerclee
I think doubling is overstating my values, and this hand has no flexibility for playing in hearts or NT (or defending diamonds). Despite how much I hate not bidding on shapely hands like this (with spades!), I think this is a pass. On many of the hands where doubling is right, I think I will get another shot anyway. mr1303
Heart length doesn't matter if partner rebids 2H. Heart length does matter if the auction goes (3d) 3H or worse, (4d) 4H. There becomes a point where you don't rebid spades as you are too high.
skjaeran
I think I also pass but it is close. Ditto.
whereagles
Thx all. I was just wondering what you'd think of doubling here. Wasn't expecting it to be so close, since to me it's a clear pass. Your choice shouldn't matter much, but double might encourage pard to be optimistic about his hand, which was: ♠ Qx♥ KQT98xx♦ Qx♣ Ax If opener feels lucky, he might now try 3♥, hoping for some non-rubbish across, and go down.
