To my (pleasant) surprise, all five England teams have qualified for their QFs - including finishing above the USA in all except the Seniors.

Let's see if they can keep it up in the KO stages.

edited: sorry, meant the KO stages rather than necessarily the QFs

p.s. what happened to the US junior team???

Assuming you mean us we missedby 1 freaking VP. It is funy because it never occurred to me that we woudlnt Q event hough we ended up nedeing 50 VPs in the last 2 matches,. NEVER. I was just like obv we will make it lOL. We got 25 obv, and then we ended with 23 to miss by 1. Obviously we played badly in order to not make it happen. Don't no what else to say realllt, we did not play well enough to be in the top 8.

Our congratulations to Norway (U-28), Denmark (U-26) and France (U-21) on winning the gold medal in the youth events. Also well done to the silver medalists: Poland, Poland (again) and England.

Bronze medal: China, Norway and China (again).

The most remarkable come-back for years was achieved by Norway in the U-28 final against Poland. The Scandinavians trailed by 47.3 IMPs going into the last 16 boards, and prevailed in the end by 1.7 IMP!

This was Denmark's second World Championship, exactly 10 years after their win in Hamilton, Canada, in 1998. The small Nordic country also has a silver medal to her name, in Paris 2003 where Italy won.

I was pleased to see the England U21s (and the U28s) doing well, as it's been years since we've had a competitive junior team.

Astonishingly, England are the only country to be in the semi-finals of both the Open & Women's series. I wish them well, though I don't think they are favourites in the Open semi (whoever they draw).

Open against Germany, women against Turkey. I think it's 50-50 in the Open (slight advantage Germany perhaps), and 60-40 to England in the women's.

I don't think I offend England or Germany when I claim that the clash between Italy and Norway would be worthy of a final. They are no doubt the world's two strongest nations at the moment when we look at the open series only.

WMSG was a successful event for Turkish players, too. Our women team reached semifinals, I think this was the first time our national team reached a semifinal in world championships. Our open team qualified from round robin stage, but couldn't beat Norway in the round of 16. Finally in the youth category, Melih Sen- Mehmet Sakirler won the world junior pairs. Congratulations!

edit: in the last day of the event, Salih Murat Anter won the ‘A’ section to take the World Junior Individual Championship and Gold medal. Congratulations to him, too!
