NickRW
Absolutely - IMO it isn't even close - I wouldn't open this a strong NT due to the shape and lack of anything in the doubletons - but the strength is there for it - four aces and tens is worth an upgrade any day of the week Nick
MickyB
I bid 3NT without much thought, it was suggested to me that 3♠ would have been a better bid.
mike777
I would have tried 3h over 2nt. p=p=1c=(2h)2nt=p=?
jdonn
Easy 3NT. Partner would expect either a stronger or more distributional hand for 3♠.
dburn
Don't mind 3NT, but would apologise if opponents ran diamonds and it turned out that we could make game in a black suit (what should partner bid over 2♥ with ♠QJx ♥AQxx ♦Jxx ♣Qxx, after all?) If partner said "No problem - I'd have expected you to be stronger or more distributional for 3♠", fine. If he said "Maybe 3♠ should be this kind of hand or better", also fine. If he said "I should think you are sorry. Why didn't you bid 3♠?" - well, he'd have to be a pretty fine player for it to be fine for me to continue playing with him. bid_em_up
I think if 4S is a better place to play, maybe he should have made a negative double instead of 2N. Did you ask him why he didnt make one?
mike777
hmmw wow i guess 3h is not good? As a side note...very side note...I understand opening 1nt....even with this extreme.
gnasher
Don't mind 3NT, but would apologise if opponents ran diamonds and it turned out that we could make game in a black suit (what should partner bid over 2♥ with ♠QJx ♥AQxx ♦Jxx ♣Qxx, after all?) Or even ♠QJx ♥AQxx ♦xx ♣Qxxx. I'd bid 3♠, and I don't think partner should expect any more shape or strength than this. If I'd already promised clubs, I'd be more inclined to bid 3NT. gwnn
mike, what does 3♥ mean?
benlessard
I think its close call between 3S and 3Nt. Partner can surely have 4S (5 ?) and bid 2Nt. Making a neg X with 1.5/2 stoppers in H and short clubs will often backfire. So with most hands where ive got 2 H stoppers and values ill stretch to bid 2Nt instead of making a neg X. QxxxxKJxAxxxx Even with 5S it will not surprised me that 2Nt might be better than a neg X.
dake50
As I play partner's max-pass cannot have long spades. 3NT with no other considerations.
OleBerg
As I always open 5-5 in the black suits with 1♣, I have an easy 3♠. In partnerships where 5-5 can be opened 1♣, 3♠ is out of the question. Strenghtwise, 3♠ shows nothing more than a raise to 3nt, it simply describes a ditributional hand, that believes that other games than 3nt is possible.
