How do you bid this?

1D (1) - 1H

1S (2) - 3S (3)

...

=> 6S, because you are missing the Queen

(1) I though for a short time about 2C, but

I wont be able to show the 6-4, and if I

get another chance after 1D, I have an

easy forcing rebid

(2) forcing, else 2S, but it does not matter,

I am not even sure, 1S promising an

unbalanced hand would help

(3) limit, the diamonds fit is buried

With kind regards

Marlowe

typical.....open 2c.... typical use rkc......easy......I know.... know both are forbidden on forums.

2c=2d(random ace or king)

3d(3 loser hand)=4d

4h(rkc)=4nt(1-4)

5s(k of s, confirm all keycards, grand try)=7d

easy..bid 2c and then rkc...both forbotten on forums :)

If south opens 2, surely north is worth a 2 (natural) answer? That would pretty much tell the location of the K, and then I think you're bound to wind up in slam.

I suspect, though, that it's easier to end up in the inferior slam than the superior slam.

But maybe the advanceds will prove me wrong.

I'm not sure that 7 is such a nice contract. After a lead you need some good placing of cards. 3-3 is still ok, but when they are 4-2 and trumps don't split 2-2, you still need to find the s: either a finesse or a squeeze. (I'm not an expert in percentages)

A 3-3 or a 2-2 with a 4-2 or a finesse or stiff Q offside (and I'm not even saying this is the best line) is really quite good odds. And that's all assuming the best lead.

Why not bid 6 over 5? Still searching for a grand but off the trump queen, so your interest is obviously in some other suit. I don't think he will expect you are offering hearts as a possible suit since if you are expecting a spade loser, that means you don't expect a diamond loser, so you must have solid diamonds. Partner would at least offer 7 on the way to 7 with his hand even if he thought your interest might be in hearts.

7 is fine.

We make when hearts are 3-3 (36%), trumps are 2-2 and hearts are 4-2 (combined .64 x .4 x .42 =~ an additional 12%) + the spade finesse (or Q stiff offside; an additional 27%) = 75%. Without that trump spot its still right to bid, but not as clear.

There's a little for extra squeeze chances against West, but only when West is 4=4 in the majors, otherwise we'll have to guess between the spade finesse / squeeze.

Would you bid a grand slam on an 8 card fit headed by the AKQ? If you answer yes to that you have so many opportunities with 7 to make it of a similar risk.
