balance on a 4 count??

Recommended Posts

Partner and rho have around 29 HCPS between them and both are passing. Any ideas why they did?

Lets say, I bid 4 Club, non leaping michaels. What will partner do with Kxxx,AQx,AKx,Kxx? You will have most likely two heart loser and maybe even a club loser. And this hand is more then he can have. And it has most of its points in Aces and Kings.

Same hand, what will he do after my 4 Heart bid? Maybe I make 5 Heart, but maybe I don't.

I would like to bid 4 Heart if pd must pass this when it is right, but I cannot.

Maybe I should try a 3 HEart bid. If they accept, anything is fine, else I am forced to bid 4 and pd is forced to pass. But of course, we would never do such evil stuff at a table.

hmm this looks a bit familiar.

ah, i remember!

I don't think this is quite the same as the one Han posted recently.

I think it is highly probable RHO has enough to make 3 a making contract. I think partner also likely has enough that 4 is either a make or no worse than one off.

Of course, I could be wrong and/or maybe partner gets too enthusiastic. However, my guess (and it is a guess) is that bidding is better than passing.

I think this auction screams that partner has penalty double of spades and RHO has intermediate values with no spade support. So, the question becomes, does partner have any values outside of trump and how many hearts or clubs he has. So, I am passing because I have a feeling that RHO rates to be

0-4-5-4 or something of that nature and we have no fit. And no, I don't think 3S is making. I think 5C is more likely your game, but I don't know what you do and I am too chicken to double with this hand.

Codo, partner with a 19 count and a spade stopper needs to bid 3 NT and hopefully you make it, so I don't think that is partner's hand.

no, it probably isn't but I meant what I said. This was a hand from the Australian Junior Team Selection for 2007. I was sitting East but had a different auction. It was quite funny what the contract was at both tables.

I totally agree.

This is why I wrote that he cannot have so much. He surely has a weaker hand, so biding is less acctractive to me. B)

At one table, the auction was

Pass - 1 - All Pass

The other table was:

3 - Pass - Pass - 4

Pass - 6 - All Pass.

The 6 auction is plain weird--hell of a way to end up in a contract that couldn't make on an answered prayer. A reasonably sensible North calls 3NT and then accepts a 4 signoff.

The 1-float auction actually makes some sense if the partnership doesn't have a natural 1NT overcall available.
