dicklont
Since I heard the rule that you *always* raise partner when he bids your fivecard I have applied it and never had to regret it. This will be the exception to the rule.
rogerclee
3♦ dude.
655321
I *want* to bid 4♦... But perhaps r/w, and no singletons, discretion, etc... OK, 3♦ for me, but I still kind of like 4♦.
mikeh
pass when you have nothing, you either preempt or pass. the heat is wrong to preempt with this crap. it is not that 3♦ will go for the magic 200, undoubled, because it probably won't. but there is a good chance that partner will not be through bidding if you raise him, and you have negative defence if he doubles them, and your only offence comprises 3rd round ruffs... you have a working zero count! bridge is a partnership game, and your partner is allowed... indeed supposed... to make bidding decisions based on the values you show. you can always pass and bid 3♦ at your next call if appropriate. yes, this may let them find their spade fit, with rho being too weak to make a negative double, but LHO is probably about to double 3♦ anyway. i was too lazy to use the shift key on this post

AlternaG
I bid 4♦ at the table, and it went for 500 (and a bottom, in particular). I thought 3♦ was too forward going, and I didn't want to pass with 5c support. Then I couldn't tell if I was resulting when I started questioning the 4♦ bid. Thanks for your comments.
