ArtK78
Tough problem what to do. I suspect at the table I would bid 3NT. Certainly LHO does not have solid clubs (although he might if he were red - you did not give the vulnerability). So I might not get a club lead or partner might have clubs stopped. Or my 8xxx might stop the suit (certainly possible, even if LHO has AKQ7xxx). I would never cue bid, as that should show a spade fit. rogerclee
4♣ shows a good raise of spades, says nothing about clubs. The actual hand is a 3N WTP.
kenrexford
4♣ shows a good raise of spades, says nothing about clubs. The actual hand is a 3N WTP. Yeah, but "WTP" is a tad much. 4♦ would, IMO, be wrong, but not hopeless or stupid.

kenrexford
4♦ would, IMO, be wrong, but not hopeless or stupid. Can you elaborate? What does 4♦ aim to accomplish? Well, 4♦ is a bid "where I live" and might catch partner with the right number of diamonds. If partner has only five spades, and the average 1 club, and only two hearts, then he has five diamonds. Shorten his hearts, and his expected diamond length increases. Now, I think he should bid 4♦ with that hand, but he might not like having xxxxx in diamonds, for the obvios reason. Or, he might insist spades with 6-5 and "really good spades," like KQ10xxx. Again, I voted 3NT, but I think 4♦ is not insane.

SlickRicky
Hi, I think in this auction "CoG or spade slam try" is a vastly superior treatment, but I would not assume it undiscussed as it is not standard. That being said, you will often be 2-6 in the majors and not want to unilaterally bid 4 of either major. You will lose some ground on slam try auctions (especially if partner picks spades), but you will gain by getting to the right game more often (even when you dont bid 4C, your 4H bid will be a stronger statement for example, and partner won't have to guess whether or not to pull it as often). P_Marlowe
Hi, 4C should show a spade fit. I would go with 4H, the alternative being4S, but partner can bid this by himself. I guess, another alternative is 3NT, but Iam not brave / fooloish enough for that.4C should show a spade fit. COG stands for what? helene_t
I like to play this a COG, although I could use it for a mild slam try by bidding 4♠ after p's 4♦ or 4♥. As for the actual hand I agree with our senior bridge theorist.
