Yesterday, my pd and me had a little accident on this hand. This was the bidding

North Sotuh

1C 1S

2H 3D*

3S - 4D**

4S ?? 4NT

5H 5NT ***

6C**** 6H *****

Pass ?

* 4 Suit forcing

**- Cue

5H - 2 KC w/o Q

*** - Specific Kings ask, grand slam try

****- King of clubs, may have another

*****- Ask for King of hearts for 7

Ok, Partner said he was confused and passed 6H. 6 level will get you a decent score, but 7 is superb.

You may not like the bidding, like reverse is a little light, or spade preference with 2, but I think auction was fine till the end. Spade preference worked well here, as pinpoints singleton diamond, and improves South Hand. Other alternative is 4C bid, and its unclear how to proceed after that ( 4H, 4S, sound like sign off, also 4NT sound natural and not Blackwood)?

Do you think South can bid 7 after 6C? ( North thins that 6C bid effectively denied king of H, as he would jump tp 7 with both)

Do you think North can upgrade his hand with 6th club and bid 7NT?

Some people found 7, with not too stellar auctions, of course

I don't think so. Couldn't south be bidding this way with two small clubs instead of QT?

I agree with Han, the 3 bid clogged the auction. I think lots of people play that the cheaper of 4th suit and 2NT is the bid responder makes when he does not want to force game. That would have allowed responder here to take a forcing preference to 3C which would have helped, I think.

Forcing preference to 3C with AKQJx in spades? I would really prefer to bid 2 forcing spades.

Do you mean strong jump shift, Han?

I am not in love with 3D, but I dont see any other forcing bid available. 2Nt would be Inbergman, relay to 3C. Now any bid is to play and shows dead beat hand.

It is common and (I would say) wise to play that responder rebidding his suit after a reverse is a one round force. That's what han is referring to. The auction flows much more smoothly after starting that way. It may go

1 1

2 2

3 4

4 4NT

5 7NT

Note that 4 is forcing (similar to 1 1, 3 4), and south can just bid keycard from there (I assumed 1430, obviously it doesn't matter). 2 is a good idea since it lets opener show he has six clubs.

I want to note I think the reverse is a very good bid, and one that many players wouldn't have made.

Agree with all of this.

Hi,

#1 1C fine, 1S, fine, 2H fine, 3D fine

#2 3S should show 3 cards, sry bidding a doubleton is ...,

bid 4C, you have to start showing your 6 card at some

point in time, and the time is now, if you dont want to

by pass 3NT, bid 3H.

#3 Dont care

With kind regards

Marlowe

PS: I play 2S as nonforcing, works well enough most

of the time, but I think we had this discussion before.
