tabhzbb
I am sure many others are afflicted with this annoying problem and are blaming it on their computer...DONT. The cause is those annoying screen saver motion ads in the bottom corner. Not only are they distracting to play but somehow slooow down performance of the program needed to operate the Bridge Base on line.Nothing will be done unless the get a whole lot of complaints. They are a result of an Adobe Flashplayer ad program . I went into the programs list on my computer and uninstalled the Adobe Flash player but it resulted jn the loss of features on other unrelated sites, and did nothing about the lag of others playing brjdge at Bridge Base with me. I have experienced them pn other sites and they just get worse... So it will take a movement of all users to get Bridge Base to eliminate them. If you know or can contact one or more of the owners of this site personally I urge you to do so . Other than that it is pretty good site for us, the lovers of the game of Bridge. thank you and pass it on tabhzbb
uday
We're trying a new source of ads (yahoo) We already removed the offending ad -- sorry about that. I trust that only the very occasional ad will cause this problem and that we will quickly find/toss those ads. If this is not the case, we'll do something more drastic uday
glen
Another "Ad" is the flashing white/green "this is not a joke ..." with "click here to claim" button - hopefully everybody playing will use the claim buttons found elsewhere. JoAnneM
Charge for your site and you won't need the ads. People want a free site and then they gripe about the ads......
rogerclee
People want a free site and then they gripe about the ads...... We don't gripe about the ads. We gripe about the ones that slow your computer to a grinding halt, making BBO completely unusable. Look, I made an entire post without caps locking any of the words! glen
Charge for your site and you won't need the ads. People want a free site and then they gripe about the ads...... Did you not read the previous posts before you posted this, or did you read them and then jumped to an unreasonable conclusion? We are not talking about all the Ads, or most of the Ads - we have no problem with the vast majority of them, just like I have no problem with the vast majority of the posters here. uday
We don't want annoying or obnoxious ads either. Just yell -- here or via email to jacki@ or uday@ or support@ -- and we'll do the needful. This is relatively new to us, too ( not ads, but this ad provider). tabhzbb
Geezzz...Whats the use....She read into it just what she wanted.......as Roger said...its not ..."THE AD" ...but how its program is disrupting the smooth flow of information from 1 computer to the other. Not to mention from 1 player to the next? .Maybe she just hasn't noticed the amount of slow play lately? or the lags when playing to a trick? or bidding ? As far as the free play ...She seems to be OK with that part of it or she wouldn't be here!! As far as griping...I was pointing out an apparent problem many users would not be familiar with. Who seems to be doing the griping? or just looking for an argument maybe?
jandrew
The current ad for screen savers is causing quite a few of us an enourmous amount of grief. The response is slow, we cannot hover over players and see their profile, we can not see the last trick plasyed. jandre (acol club)
jandrew
Having just made the above post, I returned to my game and the offending advert had gone - replaced by another. My responses are now absolutely normal. The evidence points to the advert for screensavers B) jandrew (acol club)

matmat
welll... i have to say,... lthat is one screen-saver i will never buy B) why would you ever buy a screensaver in the first place? :) I am wondering if there is any way to disable (server side) ads that contain anything but standard graphics. i.e. flash, etc. My processor cycles are precious (especially when doing some computer intensive work) and having an ad gobble up 30-40% of my CPU is annoying and I feel *I* should be getting paid for someone else using my computer... SoTired
if you have a good firewall and you know the source ad site, you can block the entire site that the ads come from. I have done this before, but it does cause some problems with some sites that stop displaying the rest of the page until the ad is successfully displayed. jandrew
Then it went away again - all was ok. I have no problems with adverts on BBO. In fact, I can see no reason why the owners should not cover their costs and make a profit - they provide an excellent service - free. However, if the screensaver advert (and any like it) capture the interface, preventing other adverts from loading and interfering with the bridge programme then there is a problem - both for BBO and its clients. I've just stopped playing because that screensaver advert re-appeared and the programme stopped working effectively. I and the others on my table who were getting that advert had to quyit B) jandrew
Free
One way to avoid the annoying ads: install mozilla firefox, and setup a proxy server (especially if you don't use one) in your internet explorer. This way you can still connect to internet (using firefox) and BBO, but you don't get news and adds B) Works for me!
jandrew
The adverts which were causing the problems have disappeared. Great work :( jandrew
rabid
I've been looking at this forum and have to admit that I've never seen any of these ads. They do not show up at all when using Linux + Wine + BridgeBase. The only problems that have arisen is browser links do not work in BridgeBase and keyboard entry+play crashes BridgeBase, but seeing the discussions about flashy and loud ads makes me think that is a small price.
