1eyedjack
Channel 4 in the UK screened an issue of "Wife Swap" yesterday evening (14 September). I wouldn't normally watch it but one of the couples featured Brian Senior, so I took a peek. If you missed it, well, in my opinion you didn't miss anything. Did anyone else manage to watch it to the end? I was so bored I switched off at half time. Maybe it picked up at the end?
sceptic
My wife likes this program, I am not much of a TV fan myself, but I watched most of it because my wife thought it may interest me, because it was about a bridge couple. How wrong she was, I see nothing good about these types of programs, all that it seemed to do was to display the man and his wife as emotional retards, no idea why he did it, no idea what he hoped would happen, but if I ever had the opportunity to meet the guy, I think I would go hide in a corner until, he left the building. helene_t
They said at the bridge club that they would be swapping with a gay couple. Is that correct?
RMB1
Yes the other couple were two men. Nevena was billed as "doesn't believe in same-sex relationships".

david_c
Awful programme, but it was worth watching just to see Brian being Brian. Though you probably wouldn't "get it" if you hadn't met him before. My dad was convinced he was "acting a part" for the camera. "No, he really is like that!" It was nice to see his sense of humour come through occasionally.
pclayton
They have Wife Swap here in the states. Usually a bunch of Jerry Springer-types. Shows like this are the reason I keep my TV viewing restricted to sports and movies. I do make an exception for Showtime's "Weeds" and "Californication". I thought Nevena came out of it quite well but, as you say, Brian was simply Brian and his humour was largely too subtle for the editing. kenberg
Shows like this are the reason I keep my TV viewing restricted to sports and movies. I never owned a TV but when I had access to a communal TV I watched only wildlife docus. My first wife insisted we get a TV, so I got my kicks on Route 66. And medical advice from Ben Casey. Currently I favor Saving Grace. I have never seen a reality show. The whole concept puts me off. Wife swap sounded particularly dippy, although having one couple be gay would liven things up. In the early sixties there was, for one season, a show that did a different play every week. The Fantasticks, Death of a Salesman, Tiger at the Gates, Waiting for Godot, etc. Oh well. Only the good die young.
ASkolnick
The funny part about the wives swap was it was originally done as a parody in the "chapelle show" where they switched the black, gambling man type with a middle american puritan type man. So I find it very amusing that people said, "you know, we could actually do this show".
NickRW
Wife swap - well I did catch the first few minutes of the first episode when the series started. That's all I've ever watched as it was so diabolical. Nick
MickyB
Apparently Nevena is annoyed with how Brian was portrayed by the editing. Hardly surprising, but there ya go. I watched it with a few other people who know them (including one who plays bridge with Brian semi-regularly), found it to be hilarious. Would have been disappointed if I hadn't, think half the tournament players in the country have been looking forward to it since it was announced!
