ewj
[hv=d=e&v=n&s=skqxxhaj8xdkxxxcq]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] You open 1D, playing 4 card diamond suit, strong NT. Partner responds 1S, do you rebid 3S on this or only 2S. No pips at all really (yes I only bid 2).

Guest Jlall
This reminds me of a hand from the US team trials. I think it was also 15 with a stiff Q. Most people bid 3 and went down in game, a few people bid 2. I would bid 3 but 2 could easily work better. Really uncomfortable hand for me but as meck says when faced with the choice of an overbid or an underbid go with the overbid.
peachy
Not easy. Tough between 2S and 3S.
han
Don't have strong feelings about this one, could go either way. System plug: With cherdano I play that 3S shows short clubs and then I would bid it for sure.

mcphee
Sigh, nice hand. In a regular partnership I would bid 2 and let partner get involved, confident we have the right tools to continue. In a less common partnership I suppose you have to take a stab with 3S a wee overbid.
han
I don't understand your comment McPhee. Can you explain why your regular partner is more likely to make a gametry than someone else?
ewj
Ok I only bid 2 and we had game on  But fair play. Does the stiff club being the queen make any difference? Just it wouldn't have done in this case.
pclayton
Move that black queen somewhere else and I'd 3♠ this. LTC nuts bid 3♠.
andy_h
4441, NV and club queen could be dubious - that sways me to 2S. Past threads have convinced me to raise to 2 with these kind of hands (and also playing 1D as an unbal hand )
Apollo81
I would just bid 2♠. I think this is the right bid on value (although it's certainly top of the range) but aside from that, people seem to try for game pretty aggressively after a single raise, so that makes it even easier for me. ochinko
LTC nuts bid 3♠. Yep, that would be me. You don't know how many working points you have with the singleton ♣Q but you do look at 6 losers even without her, so 3♠ it is. Wtp, etc.
skjaeran
I'm always a 2♠ bidder on these hands. Give me a chunkier ♦ suit, and we're talking.
han
Ok I only bid 2 and we had game on :P But fair play. Does the stiff club being the queen make any difference? Just it wouldn't have done in this case. Not sure what you mean Ed. If the queen is small (ie if you have a 13-count) then I think it would be a clear 2S bid so yes the queen is better than nothing. If you would move the queen into another suit (so that you have a 4441 15-count with a small stiff club) then I think it would be an even clearer 3S bid. Whatever you meant, that has to answer your question.
ochinko
It's preferable not to have the ♣Q for your 3♠, because you'll know that even lesser number of the point counters will find the game, but at the end you have to bid what you're dealt. OleBerg
Easy 3♠ for a compulsory overbidder like me. (Assuming a splinter in 3♣ is not available.)
