What do you bid?

catch22

Recommended Posts

Hi,

depends on the meaning of 2C, if it was gf,

3NT is clear.

If it was SAYC style, and pass over 3D would

have been

#1 forcing, pass is an option, since 3S was

openers weakest action.

#2 non nonforcing, 3S should show something

additional, how much, no idea.

The equation changes also depending on the

opening style.

With kind regards

Marlowe

[hv=d=n&v=n&s=s8ha874dk95ckq754]133|100|Scoring: IMP

1S-(P)-2C-(3D)

3S-(P)-?

What do you bid on this hand and is it obvious?[/hv]

IMO _P = 10, 3N=9, 4=8

Guess partner has something like KQJxxx x Jxx AJx

If partner is short in hearts then, in a notrump contract, is more likely to be your Achilles heel than . However if AQ lie over your K, 4 may play badly.

No it's not obvious.

I think it's very close between 3NT and 4S. If my DK were the Ace, then 4S would be obvious.

I don't think partner will pull 3NT nearly as often as the optimistic posters think he will.

The DK being the ace is a huge change given that the main reason to bid 3N is to protect your DK imo.

He doesn't have to pull that often for bidding 3NT to be right. If 4 is right 60% of the time and 3NT is right 40% of the time, he only has to pull 1/3 of the time that 4 is better for our 3NT bid to be right (yeah I know, assuming he never pulls when 3NT was better).
