andy_h Posted September 9, 2008 Report Share Posted September 9, 2008 You're in 1st seat as South at all vul, playing 2/1, holding: [hv=d=s&v=b&s=s6hakqdat63cat732]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] You open 1♣, partner responds 1♠, RHO bids 2♦. pclayton Posted September 9, 2008 Report Share Posted September 9, 2008 Pass. If pard can't reopen we probably don't have game. If pard reopens with a double, I will try to avoid drooling on the table. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Lobowolf Posted September 9, 2008 Report Share Posted September 9, 2008 Pass, though I'd be tempted to bid 3NT. If I were tempted to bid anything, it'd be 2♥. But I'd hate to end up in one of those 4-3 fits where each partner thought the other had the 4. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
the hog Posted September 10, 2008 Report Share Posted September 10, 2008 Pass. Easy one. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Lobowolf Posted September 10, 2008 Report Share Posted September 10, 2008 I think the "Pass wtp?" responses really fail to acknowledge the position partner faces in the passout seat when he knows he's opposite something between an average 12-count and a good 17-count. Yeah, we're worth less when partner bids our singleton, but we still have 3 aces, 4 quick tricks (and 5 sure tricks), a couple of tens, and a 5-card suit. MFA Posted September 10, 2008 Report Share Posted September 10, 2008 Pass. Hopefully partner can balance (a double would be particularly nice :)). Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
effervesce Posted September 10, 2008 Report Share Posted September 10, 2008 I'm bidding 2NT (2nd choice 3NT). Assuming the opps is sane, you won't get too rich from 2♦X. KJxxx xxx xx Kxx from pard looks like a reasonable shot at 3NT - yes, partner may reopen with a X on that hand, but he may not too. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
mike777 Posted September 10, 2008 Report Share Posted September 10, 2008 You're in 1st seat as South at all vul, playing 2/1, holding: <!-- ONEHAND begin --><table border='1'> <tr> <td> <table> <tr> <td> Dealer: </td> <td> South </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Vul: </td> <td> Both </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Scoring: </td> <td> IMP </td> </tr> </table> </td> <td> <table> <tr> <th> <span class='spades'> ♠ </span> </th> <td> 6 </td> </tr> <tr> <th> <span class='hearts'> ♥ </span> </th> <td> AKQ </td> </tr> <tr> <th> <span class='diamonds'> ♦ </span> </th> <td> AT63 </td> </tr> <tr> <th> <span class='clubs'> ♣ </span> </th> <td> AT732 </td> </tr> </table> </td> <td> </td> </tr> </table><!-- ONEHAND end --> You open 1♣, partner responds 1♠, RHO bids 2♦. Your bid. I guess 1d opening is nonexpert? hand not good enough for reverse?..lousy spots? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Your bid. I guess 1d opening is nonexpert? hand not good enough for reverse?..lousy spots? Since nobody's commented, I imagine it's agreed that the hand qualifies for a reverse, though I know players who would disagree and open 1♦. It's definitely strong enough for a reverse by my standards, so I'm fine with the 1♣ opener, intending to reverse into 2♦. Pesky RHO thwarted that plan, though. I don't know that you'd get complaints if you chose not to revese either, though. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
han Posted September 10, 2008 Report Share Posted September 10, 2008 Yeah, this is probably a minimal opener for you with only 17 points consisting of only aces and kings, no fillers. And then those lousy 10-spots. I say sure go ahead and open it 1D. (well, as long as you are not playing in a tournament where you are not allowed to psyche) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Cascade Posted September 10, 2008 Report Share Posted September 10, 2008 Pass is fine probably whatever happens if we do not have a game. The problem is that partner could have a 8 or 9 with some diamond length and have no clear action and we belong in 3NT. If the hand is a misfit we may need more than collecting some 100s. This suggests bidding 2NT. The downside of bidding 2NT is that partner might take out to spades which could be bad whether or not we have game. I agree this is death hand...super max..and misbid minors. but OTOH ....I lose because i mess up so many more simple hands. :) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
