Echognome
I pass, but won't necessarily bid clubs later. I certainly will if 1NT comes back to me, but I don't want to bid them at the 3-level.

helene_t
Wow I was about to vote for 2♦. I think I have enough values that I somehow need to make a noise. Bidding clubs now would be artificial, bidding clubs later may be unsafe. By bidding 2♦ now I accept that I won't be able to show my clubs. It really would be nice to know what the opps are playing and what the min number of Cs is.I am tossing up between 3C and 3D and will probably choose the latter. Certainly am not passing as I will never be able to show these values after a pass.

whereagles
This is fishy. I'll go with the underbid of 2♦, intending to bid 3♣ later. If 2♦ wins the pot, then pard is probably 4-4-4-1 with 11-12, in which case we should be in the right spot.

Our long suit is lousy and sitting offside, and the suit we are bidding is just Kxxx. 2♦ seems fine to me despite that I would usually have fewer highcards. If/when I bid 3♣ next partner will know I am on the maximum side anyway, partly since I bid again a level higher, and partly since I am showing the suit bid on my left. benlessard
2D WTP, passing is gross and there is no reason to believe club is better than diamonds. Over 2S ill bid 3C wich should be natural. I dont expect the bidding to die at 2D so that why i dont have a bid problem with the underbid. Guest Jlall
I would also have bid 2D. Is Han's 3C bid natural for sure? I guess I'll add that to my vocabulary but I would have thought of bidding that with a shapely red hand with not too many points also I think. marcD
probably depends on your agreements but I play that dbl is penalty here so easy pass for now. I'll double 1NT and bid 2NT if they run to 2♥
benlessard
Ive remember a more unlikely but similar example (1C)-----P-------(1S)-------X (P)------2H-----(2S)-------pass(P)-------??? would 3C here be natural or a hand that want to bid 3H but invite to 4H ? I think that since game is so unlikely that 3C should be natural like 6C and 4H. xAKxxxKJxxxxx (1C)--------X-------(1S)--------2D(P)----------P-------(2S)--------??? or (1C)---------X-------(1S)--------2D(2S)---------P--------(P)--------??? (1C)----------X-------(1S)-------2D(X) suppX----P-------(P)--------??? In these auction wich IMO are quite likely to happen 3C can only be ... 1- natural with 6 decent clubs 2- competing to 3D with extras values and still looking for game. Im pretty sure my partner will know its 1 and that more than 50% of experts will think about 1 instead of 2 but even if they think its number 2 then that doesnt pose a big problem since 3D should be pretty cold. The problem imo is when the bidding goes (1C)----------X-------(1S)-------2Dall pass. and you could have bid game. Ive said 2D WTP but im wrong a direct 3D is probably a equally good bid. Its highly unlikely you are going down in 3D while 3C makes and it wouldnt be too surprising if RHO bid 1S with Qxxxxx in spades and that you can make a game.
