I would vote for the elimination of all mouse over messages. I'd much rather a click be required in order to bring up a player's profile, a list of kibitzers, the cards played to the last trick, etc. I find inadvertent popup messages rather annoying.

oh now, be nice.

Have you never found yourself in a tournament with someone who is apparently having the worse bridge day of his life and consistently scuppers every hand? It makes it possible to get through it if you can vent to somebody who won't mind(even if they chortle at you afterward). You can still smile sweetly behind gritted teeth when your pard tells you that your *over*bid was wrong and the reason he went down (although in the trailers afterward all the other pairs made or bettered the same contract).Or laughs and says he forgot he had splinters on his profile and sorry for leaving you in that suit, ha ha. Or doesn't support your red 1 level overcall, or come in on the opps subsequent rounds of bidding but leaps in at the five level with 3 hcp and 2 ( the 6 and 4) of your trump (which you only bid once). (And if you are REALLY lucky, then suggests a different line of play from the one you tried).

If you can moan to somebody it helps stop you from a) being rude to your pard or b ) running screaming into the night, and subsequently getting blacklisted from tourneys :rolleyes:

public only? or private?

Oh good, so my happy fun table with my friends from back home, where things may get a little out of hand, is now available for everybody to see, despite the fact we set it permission required to kibitz because of precisely that? My after-the-tournament discussions with partner where we are actively disagreeing about who was captain after our latest disaster (in a separate chat room, again, free from "ears") is common knowledge until I remember to

kaboom!

?

No thanks. There are much easier ways to deal with rudeness than keeping a public history.

The Flash client has a very useful feature (at least I find it very useful) that allows you to keep carry on separate private chat conversations with as many BBO members as you want. Here is how it works:

Click on a member's name to display his profile (the default in the Flash client is no mouseover popups as TimG prefers). When the popup appears click the "private chat" button at the top of it. You will see a complete record of all of your private interactions with the member in question. If you want to look at this for more than a few seconds you should click the "Pin" button at the botttom of the popup - otherwise it will fade away after about 5 seconds unless you are holding your mouse over it.

Another way to launch this facility for a given user is to right click his/her name and then select "private chat" in the menu that appears. You won't have to "pin" the popup in this case - it happens automatically.

Note that the private chat that will be displayed in this area will consist of all private chat you have sent/received to/from the given member in the current BBO session (as opposed to only private chats that have been sent/received after the popup itself has appeared).

Unlike the Windows client, the Flash client also allows you to select, copy, and paste from the main chat area or from these private chat areas.
