matmat
I saw the hand, so my answer might be a bit skewed. I feel like i need to game-force this hand, but unless I play two tiered splinters there is no perfect call. I'd probably settle for Jacoby. 4 tricks in hearts are too much to just invite imo. mike777
I will try a Bergen raise of 4D 5 trumps, less than ten hcp with 1. to 1.5 outside quick tricks. Granted this hand may be a bit too good... second choice 2nt as a strong spade raise.
cherdano
I bid 3N showing a club splinter with 5 trumps but minimal values. Wait we don't play that? I would just bid 4S.
zasanya
why not just blast to 4?dont think we wud miss slam.Or is 4♠ weaker than the given hand?
kenrexford
Wow, but the analysis so far seems wildly backwards. This hand should be analyzed as a "dummy reversal" hand. I would not even think of any analysis of how many tricks I have for partner's spades. I would think about how many cover cards partner is expected to have for my spades. This is a very pure 6-loser hand. I need, therefore, three covers from partner, and I could easily survive only two (the spade King could be on hook). This seems so obvious a game force that nothing else is even remotely worthy of consideration. The question, however, is how to force game. Bidding 2♥ has the obvious risk of partner raising hearts, where getting back to spades is difficult at best. Plus, I won't get the information I need to make good decisions, and this is likely to be a Responder Captaincy hand undoubtedly. Any kind of splinter seems way off base. I'm not all that concerned about slam bidding, because I probably need partner to have a pure controls hand, with about 18-19 primed, as a stiff diamond seems unlikely. So, it seems that I may want to force game in a very minimal way, trusting that partner cannot stand it with 18-19 primed out. So, I think I also will make an unusual-for-me 2NT call. "Unusual" because this hand violates almost every principle I have for when to bid Jacoby 2NT. But, partner will know that I cannot have the classic hand (Aces and spaces) whenever he can accept and will expect something weird. So, 2NT, followed by a signoff no matter what partner bids. I'll trust partner to move if it is right.
jdonn
Not 2♣ Ken?
Echognome
Obvious fit jump if we play those. I don't really like a splinter, but it might be my choice as we play them limited (about 10-12 in high cards and thus game values in strength). I don't really like 2♥ as we will get too high often. 3NT if played as a raise to 4♠ with an outside A/K would be alright. So finally, if we don't play fit jumps, limited splinters, or good 4M preempts, I will simply bid 4♠. :)
CSGibson
4♣. It's about right on values. If partner cues 4 diamonds, I will cue 4 hearts, and respect partner's sign-off in 4 spades
P_Marlowe
4C. After a cue from partner, I will bid 4S,I showed my hand, and 4H after 4D would be last train. With kind regardsMarlowe
helene_t
I would bid 4♣, the values are ok. Would prefer to show the hearts though.
Guest Jlall
I would pass, with short spades they will always reopen and then I will be better placed.
han
Right. I passed, LHO doubled, partner redoubled and LHO bid 2C. Your call?

cherdano
Pass didn't occur to me, but it seems to have worked out well. Over 2♣, I will bid 2♥. Then after they raise in clubs, I can jump to 4♠ and have given a great picture of my hand. Partner will know whether to go to slam, or what to do over 5♣. ochinko
Right. I passed, LHO doubled, partner redoubled and LHO bid 2C. Your call? it didn't occur to me that Pass is possible, but now that I did, I bid 2♠, then allow opps to "push" me to 3, 4, even 5♠ until I eventually get doubled. Risky, but why else would I pass initially?
