P_Marlowe
#a No#b No, 4H#c Sure, 4D already showed my hand to the full limit, if you think 4D was ok#d you pay the price for 4D, but I guess I would bid 5H anyway, I would have as well, if I had raised directly to 4, you dont want to defend, of course if both contracts are down, partner wont be happy. With kind regardsMarlowe PS: (Added later) I missed the fact, that the preemptorraised himself, quite often: what I cant believe, I dont see. gnasher
Yes, yes, yes and pass. I'm not ashamed of my hand for either offensive or defensive purposes.
mcphee
A: I would not elect to open this handB: I think 4D is a bit pushy, after all partner made simple o/c and did not bid 4H showing a better hand.C: Having made this cue bid I have more than said it all.D: Now I have a mess with a rather unsuitable defensive hand and regret my 4D bid. At these colors I am passing partners dble, to me an instruction to stop bidding (pass would have been F), my QC may even help.
Gerben42
A. Not opening this hand seems obvious. Bad suit, 2 first round controls.B. 4♥ would be an UNDERBID (note capital letters), so yes I'm bidding 4♦C. I pass, after all this tells me that partner is bound to have something in ♦ as well.D. Confirms my suspicion about partner's ♦ holding. Pass.
pclayton
1. Agree with the pass. Bo loves to preempt, but the suit sucks, this is a great dummy for hearts (see OP). 2. Agree with 4♦. Pard will show a minimum with a fast 4♥, extras by bidding a slow 4♥ and an awkward maximum with an agonizing 4♥. 3. Pass is obvious. 4. Pass. Another, 'preemptor raises himself' auction which happen all the time on the forums but never IRL. Its a good thing we showed all this extra defense with our 4♦ bid, JIC LHO decided to take another call . OK RHO didn't raise diamonds, so pard has HTxx. WD us. skjaeran
yes, yes, yes and passHappy to play against such an insane opponent as LHO, this auction doesn't exist in my world. Expect partner to have HTxx in diamonds and that we're about to enter a ZIP-number in our column on the score sheet.
mr1303
Whenever this auction happens to me, dummy always hits with honour 3rd in trumps, an ace and a singleton.
xcurt
I bid as shown and passed 5♦x. Unfortunately my LHO was sandbagging... Echognome
I bid as shown and passed 5♦x. Unfortunately my LHO was sandbagging... And that your partner didn't have a double of 5♦!
han
Double of 5D is crazy, pass would be forcing.
P_Marlowe
Double of 5D is crazy, pass would be forcing. Hi, yes, and because of this, I think double is ok,not only ok, but the only bid, because you dont want partner to bid 5H given your bal. shape. The hand has only defenceive values no offensiveones, besides AK in clubs. And of course the double would be ok, if the 4D bid would have contained defencive values, whichit does not have. With kind regardsMarlowe

Its not your balanced shape that makes pass correct, its the lack of diamond wastage.
jchiu
I bid as shown and passed 5♦x. Unfortunately my LHO was sandbagging... And that your partner didn't have a double of 5♦! He had a double, only that it was described by spite

nige1
Dealer: East Vul: None Scoring: XIMP ♠ A8xxxxx ♥ 7xxx ♦ [space] ♣ Qx RHO You LHO CHOPass - Pass - 3♦ - 3♥Pass - 4♦ - Pass - 4♥Pass - Pass 5♦ - DblePass - ?a: agree with not opening this hand some number of spades?b: agree with 4♦ or something else (what?)c: agree with passing 4♥?d: what now? IMO As Opener, 3♠ = 10, _P = 9. Over 3♥, 4♦ = 10, 4♥ = 6. Agree with passing 4♥. Over 5♦X, P = 10, 5♥ = 9.
