Interesting, I thought 1S was the normal bid. I bid diamonds more than most people, but I'm definitely tempted by 1S to preempt lefty out of hearts and also make sure we can compete over hearts (spades is much more likely to be effective than diamonds). Not sure what I'd do at the table.

:)

I didn't see any discussion about the fact that the opponents own the heart suit. Maybe with a 4-1 split. Also, the HCP figure to be split about 50-50. Is a 1 bid a useful preempt, or just the bid needed for LHO to show his/her values? Lottsa issues. If I had the jack, a 1 call would be easier.

I think the preemption is irrelevant. If LHO can't bid over 1S, then he will only bid 1H over 1D. Takeout doubler won't raise is more than to 2H, usually, and I am willing to bid 2S over 2H (yes it's an overbid, but it describes my shape). I guess if we aren't willing to bid 2S over 2H we should bid 1S.

1S here. Do you think you will get a good MP score defending a non vul 2H even if partner lead diamonds ? Me i rarely get good MP result by selling out in 2H in a cozy 4-4 fit.

First option is to bid 1D and double 2H later, but that is out because its likely partner going to pass the double and if he pull he will play us for 3154/3163

2nd option is to pass and double 1H or 2H later, partner will not play us for values. But that doesnt help partner find the D lead & it doesnt help him to double 3H if they compete too hard. + in the unlikely case that hes got a monster passing will not lead us to game.

3rd option is to bid 1S. It will gear us toward 2S. If they compete too hard partner will find a double. It might stop LHO from bidding 2H if he is broke.
