They Preempted :(

To start with we could either X, bid 4D, or 4H. I don't like double because my defense isn't great and partner might pass when they make, or down 1 when we can make a game. It is also a big mess if he bids 4S. 4D is safe, but will often miss our best game of 4H. I think I would just close my eyes and bid 4H and hope to catch some hearts with pard.

if they double you there, do you run to 5d?

Yes definitely.

I would gamble 4.

If doubled, I would venture 5, but I'm curious what others think of a redouble. Perhaps in these auctions where we would have bid 'under duress', redouble should not be to play, but rather suggest a second place to play. Thoughts?

Specifically the reds, because you could have doubled then pulled 4 to 4 with the majors? If that's the agreement, partner should be well-placed to decide whether to stick it out or try Door #2 at the 5-level; on the other hand, if it were "either other suit," you could bid 4 with the majors but longer hearts, or even the majors but a hand that doesn't want partner to convert.

I'll suggest it less subtly. Anyone for defining 4 as 5-5 diamonds and a major? The logic seems about the same as over slightly lower preempts, I'd be for it.

I have played this for a long time. 4D for D and a M is what i would bid here.
