Some obvious choices?

You're South on next 3 hands and it's your time to bid.

1.[hv=d=n&v=b&s=sxhakxdjxxxcaxxxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP

pass -(1)-?[/hv]

2.[hv=d=n&v=b&s=sxhakxdjxxxcaxxxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP

pass -(1)-?[/hv]

3.[hv=d=n&v=b&s=sxhakxdjxxxcaxxxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP

pass -(1)-?[/hv]

Do you have 3 obvious choices, or do you have different thoughts?

1. Double. I'm not passing and 2 is sick. This one isn't a problem.

2. Double or 2, but I think I like double a little better.

3. 4. I'm not staying short of game here with a double (triple?) fit, and tenaces over the non-preemptor. Double for me would be cards (isn't it redundant for it to be takeout?).

1. Double

2. 2C (and a reopening double if 2S on my left comes back around to me)

3. 3H (but no complaint with 4D at teams, though I think it would be a bit much at pairs)

#1 X, not perfect, but what else? Maybe Pass, but given

my spade shortness, partner will survive in a 4-3 heart

fit.

#2 2C, and even without the 9. Maybe pass is better, but I

will bid.

#3 If you play X as responsive, this would not be a problem,

as it is I double anyway, hoping partner takes it as t/o,

would not be the first time they make 3X+?, only issue is,

partner is a passed hand, so passing it out would, be a sensible

strategy.

With kind regards

Marlowe

1) Double. Lack of a 4th is a small flaw, but otherwise, hand is perfect for this action. I don't think much of waiting and perhaps acting later depending on how the acution develops.

2) Double. This hand is worse IMO than the previous one in spite of more HCP, but still, I have good support and I much prefer X to anything else by a good margin on this hand. Swap the Q of and the K of and I may overcall now.

3) Double. This of course depends on the partnership, but at your level, Edi, this is most likely for takeout :D Parner may be 4-3 in the majors for his 2-level X, and even at imps and vuln, I think I prefer this action to 4 which will certainly get you to the right suit, but too high IMO; the wasted Q argues for staying lower I think.

Double seems routine on the first two.

While some may like double on the 3rd, on the basis that it shows 'cards', such doubles are made in the expectation that partner will pass a significant amount of the time: and I don't want to defend. So I vote for the mild (but confident) overbid of 4. I like phil's comment about where the opps' values rate to be: onside. Of course, the problem may not yet be over, because partner may get excited, but he should remember that I was bidding under pressure.

1) Double. Obvious. Poor interiors in clubs, and support for hearts and diamonds.

2) 2. Far from obvious. I'll double 2 if it comes around. If 3, pre-emptive, comes around, I'd wish I had started with a double.

3) 4. Relatively obvious. Many hands with 8 scattered makes for an excellent game.

1. Dbl

2. 2 - No reason not to bid your suit since you don't have 4 cards in either side suit.

3. 3 - This hand is not worth game, you have a little extra and you're free bid after 3 shows it. Let your pard bid game with more than a minimum.

A double shows no more strenght than a 3 bid, but it assures you of playing in the right suit. Partner hasn't promised 4-4 in the majors,

I don't believe that D on the first hand is obvious. Partner has passed and I do not see any reason to enter the bidding at this stage. My opponents might have sufficient strength to bid game, and if they have a fit I do not want to reveal where the points are located. If they do not have a fit, I risk being doubled in a 4-3 heart-fit. Does not look good with the natural trump-lead.

On the second hand, my bid is 2 - partly because of my not so good support for the red suits, and partly because of the just OK quality of my club suit.

On the third hand, double is obvious.

The first two are obvious doubles.

The third is a take-out double for me, I think 4D is a bit too much. I don't like 3H as partner is entitled to give preference to clubs with a 4324 (say) and then Ive effective forced the 4-level; if I was going to do that I'd just bid 4D.

If I double and partner bids 3S I pass of course, if I thought I was worth driving game I would bid 4D last round.

IMO
  1. _X = 10, 2 = 5, _P = 3.
  2. _X = 10, 2 = 6, _P = 2.
  3. 3 = 10, 3 = 9, 4 = 8, _X = 5.
    4 is fine provided it just offers a choice of games.
