rogerclee
misthought something, this is a 1N bid
Echognome
Difficult between 1♠ and 1NT. 1♠ works out great if partner bids 1NT (and we can get to 2♦. It doesn't work out so well if partner rebids 2♣. 1NT can always get us to 3♦, but our diamond suit is a bit ratty. Edit: I forgot to give my choice. I think I'll go with 1♠, but I think it's close. jdonn
1NT. I mean, 1♠ forcing notrump, then pass the 2♦ transfer rebid.

MickyB
1N, not close. Even if pard raises 1S, it's not clear that it's worked out better than bidding 1NT.
cherdano
Playing SAYC, I would probably bid 2♦.
vinny3147
I spade absolutely. Mo other reasonale bid
mike777
1h=1s1nt=3d shows this hand no problem. 1h=1s2h=pass...no problem......3d rebid here is forcing. 1h=1s2c=3d is invite not weak. 1h=1nt?=3d shows long d weakish....
effervesce
1NT. A decent 7 card suit takes precedence over a ratty 4 carder.
CSGibson
1N, because I don't have many problems after this bid. If I respond 1♠ and partner rebids 1N, my methods allow me to get out in 2 diamonds, but if he responds 2 clubs, which is not unlikely in a uncontested auction (someone has to have them!), then I'm screwed. andy_h
I like 1NT with these diamonds.

the hog
1NT. Your most likely best spot is in Ds. You are more likely to reach it after 1NT than after 1S.
PedroG
Hi All, Very interresting thread :) I like the ideia of the ♦ suit taking precedence over the ♠. And what would happen with a more balanced hand, say something like xxxx AJx Txx Txx and partner opening 1♦, should we always mention the 4 spades even if they are 2345 ? Pedro
brianshark
1♠ always for me.

Pedro With this responding hand, the only question is, if you should pass or not, if you decide to respond 1S is clear cut. For that matter the reason, why the peoble choose to ignore the spade suit is, that the diamond suit is a 7 carder, make it a 6 carder and most would respond 1S. With kind regardsMarlowe

mike777
Why? Bid on most 5 counts....with an Ace On this one I got tens ...easy "xxxx AJx Txx Txx and partner opening 1♦, should we always mention the 4 s" My main point is..we do not lose event because we bid one spade..we lose event for many other reasons. btw I bid 1nt on OP.
