7NT seems clear, a good spot on the cards. Remember it might make when 7 fails, when somebody has a red suit void.

7 may not be that popular because some Norths may not raise hearts. I wouldn't, prefer something like 2 over 1.

At imps, 7H is clearly better because of the HJ, but very few people have systems to work out which red suit jack they have.

Even at MP I would be happy to play 7H. It is a rare field where you don't get a good board for bidding and making a grand on a combined 32-count in a 4-4 fit, and 7NT is going off, with 7H making, often enough to make 7H feel a better spot.

If the North hand were instead

AKQJxx

(or the same without the HJ at all) it is much easier, as North can bid 7D over 5NT showing a solid suit, and South, who has extra high card values, has an easy conversion to 7NT.

If the field can't bid 7 I'm not in the tourney.

On the rare occasion, where I have to go through a qualifying round, I'd still bid 7nt, practising for the final.

Ok, I'm a little spoilt by playing in Denmark, where qualifying rounds are often fairly balanced, and reasonably long.
