pclayton
Splinter but putting Gerber on the menu is always tempting.

jdonn
I can't believe I let him get the last word in lol. It seems like that was much more recent too, can't believe it was a year and a half ago.
brianshark
If the 1♠ rebid promises an unbalanced hand (ie. 5+♣s or 4-4-4-1 or something) then does that change the meaning of 4♣?
gnasher
If the 1♠ rebid promises an unbalanced hand (ie. 5+♣s or 4-4-4-1 or something) then does that change the meaning of 4♣? It makes it more likely that responder will want to support clubs, and less likely that a singleton club will be good news to opener, so there is more reason to play it as natural. Against that, a splinter will help you to stay out of bad slams. I still prefer to play it as splinter, but in one partnership I play it as natural. david_c
I would prefer to play it as a splinter, but I'm very surprised that people think it is standard. Unless discussed, I would always assume it was not possible to splinter in partner's suit.
y66
In The Bidding Dictionary (1996), which is based on modern North American methods of that time, Alan Truscott defines a splinter as: "A jump to a meaningless level, usually the four-level, to show a fit with partner, slam interest, and at most one card in the suit bid. A jump in a suit already bid by the partnership (1C 1H : 1S 4C) is less clear in Europe and may need agreement."
dake50
Distinguish 2C, 3C, 4SF then 3C, 4SF then 4C from immediate 4C. Incidentally also 2S raise GF then 4C, 3S then 4C. What is left for a space consuming immediate 4C?I like Gerber 4C. Splinter forces to explore short Club asset/duplication.
SoTired
At first glance, 1C 1H 1S 4C is a strong club raise. But the argument, "Why not go thru 4th suit" is too strong, so it must be a splinter. HOWEVER, I don't think I would spring this on an unsuspecting partner. andy_h
Splinter. Other GF hands bids 2D.
skjaeran
Obvious splinter (void) for me. I'd be surprised if anyone I'd sit down to play with would take it as natural - unless with a beginner.
RichMor
Two simple questions:1. If I can jump to 4♣ to show 4=4=4=1 can I also jump to 4♠ to show 1=4=4=4 ? :) The same logic(?) should apply. 2. What is the downside of treating all jumps to 4 of pard's minor as RKC? neilkaz
Splinter. Other GF hands bids 2D. Same for me.
