Al_U_Card
And if he is to perform well in the 200 and the relay...he can conserve energy???? hardly, but he can instill fear and respect in his competition. Plus, it was a rise for him to be so superior...as was obvious. If he stays healthy, here comes 9.50...
Aberlour10
WTF @ Bolt's sprint. Why does he stop at 80m. Because financially, it would have been best to run 9.71 this time, and 9.70 next time, and 9.69 after that. I think so too. After Olympic Games will take place several lucrative athletic meetings with special prizes for new WR, 100.000$ and more... Robert
hotShot
WTF @ Bolt's sprint. Why does he stop at 80m. Guess he did not what to produce a time to good to be true. There are people who chemically enhance their performance. Something a lot of former successful sprinter have in common. Rossoneri
Well, everyone in Singapore was glued to the semi-finals and finals of the women's table tennis, since it is our first medal since 48 years ago. Though truth to be told, it was more of China A vs China B in the finals.

Guest Jlall
BTW thought this was funny, when Phelps won one of his medals I was watching it at the bar with Meckstroth/Rodwell and a bunch of people at a regional. One of our guys also won the bronze in that event. Anyways, I said: "Phelps is like the Rodwell of swimming" (obviously just messing with meck). Meck insta replied with "That's the other guy..." (talking about the bronze guy). lol.
Gerben42
there's table tennis at the olympics? Now that's an exciting sport to watch, I wonder why it's not more popular. Everyone knows ping-pong, and it's much easier than football, which is just something that you cannot play yourself without getting hurt. The best non-Chinese table tennis player is a German, and he's like a pop star in China, apparently. What can be scrapped from the Olympics in my opinion: All the stuff with horses (even though the Dutch apparently are very good at some of the disciplines). In these "sports", the real athletes are the horses, and we would have to make an "animal olympics". We can include Elephant polo, dog races, etc.

Gerben42
Heh. You ever ridden, Gerben? Not on a big horse. I am sure there is also lots of skill required from the rider. I'm also sure it can be tiring (cross country and jumping and all). But the whole point is to train the animals, so as such that makes it really an animal sport, and not a human sport. Al_U_Card
So, they won't let the guy with the artificial legs race...but the guy with the 4 legged support they do? Seems to harken back to the days of cavalry and archery and other olden time stuff. So when will they have video-game categories? :D

You are absolutely right. When the Olympics were in Atlanta, our family (with sons aged 10, 12, and 14) went to events every day. Table tennis turned out to be one of the favorites for our whole crew. In my mind's eye, I can still see some of the fantastic shots -- especially the seemingly impossible defensive returns by players skidding on the floor a long way from the table. cjames
Table tennis not popular? You must mean in Europe, Gerben. I think the Table Tennis World Championships is the third or fourth biggest sport event. And, yeah it is fun to watch, looks almost unreal at times. ASkolnick
As for the age requirement for gymnasts, I believe that was a recent addition. I believe it started after Bella Lugosi had Kerri Shrugg doing gymnastics on a sprained ankle. So it is very possible that Nadia Comenici (Probably spelled wrong) was under the new age limit. I really don't understand why judged events are at all allowed. in addition to being subjective, they are ripe for bribery, corruption and exploitation. jkdood
Just watching some 3:30 AM (EDT) table-tennis from Olympics (USA channel)Late event match between a guy from Spain and one from Indonesia, showed the stands at times, all of maybe 6 specs there (I guess the PRC kids with their yellow plastic wands were all at dinner) anyway maybe thats why not televised much, although I wish it were,
jkdood
Hmmn, IND is INDIA not Indonesia.(Not that in itself explains the poor audience. The commentators did in fact just remark on the poor attendance, saying it's not always "this poor".)
Gerben42
Perhaps the Chinese are only interested in ping-pong if world class players are at the table. Otherwise they prefer playing themselves?
jkdood
You mean World-Class as on BBO, or??LOL.Anyway Guy from India is ranked Nbr 1 in India.I guess that is sort of world class, maybe? Oh Its only a first round match, was wrong about that also, sorry.

It is very difficult and indeed a real sport. I wrote before that I think there is lots of skill required to do this. I know that these people train a lot with the horses, because the horses require lots of training to learn these tricks and require time to trust their rider blindly. But in the end, the final result will be determined by the trainability and physical characteristics of the horse. Just my personal preference I guess, but I prefer watching human sport. Gerben42
You mean World-Class as on BBO, or?? World Class in the opinion of the spectators. Anyway, I think that if the venue is so empty, they should make sure to fill it up by selling cheap last-minute tickets. Whoever is playing, it's their biggest tournament and they deserve attention.
