2H here...pick your rationale based on the form of scoring. More likely to get us to game (and the right game) if it's IMPs; more likely to get us to the right partscore at matchpoints.

I switch back and forth over time but usually bid 2. For the most part 2 is better if it's a partscore hand, 2 is better to reach a close game, and they are about equal on obvious game or slam hands, as long as you have a decent system after the raise.

I prefer them to overcall and just let me support double :)

It seems to me 2 is completely normal and wouldn't consider 2 with such an easy natural choice, but since them junior champs all bid 2 maybe I should adapt. It'll give partner some practice in 4-3 fits :)

The hands were

Kxx

K10x

AK10xxx

x

Axx

AQxxxx

Qx

xx

we got to 4 after

1 - 1

2 - 3

4 - pass

The hands fit perfectly, slam is laydown.

Could it be reached after a 2 rebid?

I'm not an expert but I think sometimes 2D helps more in bidding slams, or even games. (Not so fond of 3 card raises...especially with very good diamonds)

I think this hand is too good for a 2H raise. But 2H closes the auction just as often as 2D, not? 2D also helps partner to upgrade his Diamonds if he has 3 cards or 2 card with an Honour.

If the auction goes 1D-1H-2D-2H, i will be happy to raise to 3H.

In this case,

1D - 1H

2D - 2S

3H / 3S / 4C (dunno whats 3S / 4C in std)....

If there is any way to know about Good Ds + Singleton C, the Slam could be bid.

On the actual auction 3 seems like a big underbid to me.

You have a six-card suit and 12 prime points. Your queen has grown in value when partner opened and rebid diamonds.

I would want to force to game with this hand. 3 is normally played as invitational.

A possible auction would be:

1 - 1

2 - 3+

3* - 4!

4NT - 5

6

+ GF (playing WJS, which is expert standard here)

* Advanced cuebid, or looking for help in for 3N

! Nothing in , but something in

North can now "see" that his hand is great and that the give discards, and ask for Key Cards. 2+Q is enough.

On the other hand, I don't see an easy way to uncover the potential if South simply raises on 3 cards.

no, Gerben. I dont think 3H is FG...

a rebid 2H should be around 7-10, 3H is invite, and FG starts by bidding a new suit i think.

It isn't in Standard American, but it is in Rieneck standard, which is what the younger German experts play. The reason is that SJS are very uncommon here, and bidding a new suit first when you don't have one complicates things a lot. In our case, 2 is around 9 - 11, and 3 is GF.

I also have always played 3 as gameforcing.

1 1

2 3

is different from

1 1

2 3

The first auction does not have 4th suit available. And, there is much less need for a weak 2 rebid - opener has limited their hand, and shown a 6 card suit.

So I play that 2 is reasonably constructive, and 3 is forcing.

Not sure if this is standard or not.

Nice hand anytime we find partner with any sort of invite we are clearly worth some strong move to accept. Any game force hand they might hold we have slam aspirations for sure. 2D getting the 6th trump across could be best but raising H sure seems more reasonable. One point strongly in favor of the H raise is the opps have been silent suggesting this is clearly our hand, finding the best strain for game is my initial interest, slam next. 2H is almost an underbid really, our hand got much better on the bidding to date.

Those that use methods to ask about the type of major suit raise should easily reach 6H. Even not the auction may go:

1D 1H

2H 2S

4C key card landing in 6H.

Not so convinced about this part of your reason. Hearts still score better than diamonds, and above and beyond that, it's generally better to play in responder's weak suit than openers. The opening hand will have outside entries to potentially set up and use diamonds; the responding hand can be close to worthless if hearts aren't trump, and you don't have to bump up a level to get there.
