Probably shouldn't have posted this. It's impossible not to get too high as the cards lie (Spades 5-1 and Clubs 6-0, ouch!) absent a very deep position by somebody.

My rewind was mildly undisciplined. I rewind fairly frequently when I expect no worse than down 1, but it's a better proposition white. Our side had just wrapped up +1380 against one of the same opps (he doubled 6 with 874 / AK94 / K7 / AJT6) with my blue card 4 boards previously and I was feeling a tad indestructible.

I was more interested in the part of the auction that preceded the redouble. Would Ogust elicit more useful information than a natural 3 Clubs (which will almost never be raised)? If you find out pard has a good hand/bad suit, then shoot 6 Clubs? Yes, on the actual lie 6 Clubs is also a bloodbath, but isn't it a better spot and a decent shot once they whip 5? I might have held KJxxxx / xx / KQJ / xx Am I really supposed to raise with that?

You're supposed to not open 2 with that. But I don't mind it on the actual hand which has worse defense and more shape.

But you redoubled??? wow...

It was not mildly undisciplined, it was just bad.

I've learned through painful experience not to make penalty redoubles unless you have them totally dead-to-rights. They almost always have some surprise other than the surprise you were expecting and you just concede extra penalties when you go set.

That said, there's a lot of blame to go around on this, even if the 2 opening is within the partnership style red/red. I don't even know where to begin, but since the most likely strain for slam is spades, why did responder start introducing another suit? And how was opener supposed to field 5? Responder should be extracting information through torture bids not showing his hand.

I dislike 2. I don't like the fact that s is my second strongest suit.

I kind of dislike 3. I think Ogust would have been better.

The rest of the auction is fine (except Rdbl of course).

Tough to stay out of some slam though. But no slam is very good. It's an interesting bidding problem.

I've got no idea where the 5 bid came from - it really looks stupid to me. Why not rebid 3, get 3NT from partner and then just sign off in 4? Jumping to the 5-level on a known 6-1 fit that rates to be not_too_good isn't sound bidding.

With that said, the worst bid was the ridiculous redouble. Totally agree with Justin's comment on that.

I think responder was a bit unlucky that opener's spades did not include the ten (when a fair slam would have been reached on a good auction). I think he was more than a bit unlucky to be playing with someone whose spades did not include the ten, but whose bidding box had the redouble card (used earlier) still mixed in with the pass cards.
