barmar
Definitely not opposite a passed partner, and probably not even if I were in second seat.
han
Automatic if I were in second seat, and I would still bid 3S here. Sure, we could easily go for a number, but it is also reasonably likely that there is a double game swing (or that we can make 4S, or that they can make 4H, or that 3S is the par spot....). barmar
I expect that partner will raise me to game with any non-minimum and 3-card support, and probably maximum pass with Hx. I don't relish either of those dummies. I'd at least like to have a better ♠ suit, like KJTxx.
ArtK78
With 5-5, I don't see how you cannot bid 3♠. It takes so little to produce a game that it is worth the risk that you might go for a number. As han said, the chances that there will be a double game swing on this hand are quite high. A better question might be this: If the auction went 3♥ - P - 4♥ to you, do you bid 4♠? I would.
jdonn
I think you just have to bid. Wow it's scary though, please don't double me kind opponents.
rogerclee
3♠, I am not risking a double game swing when I can enter at the 3-level.
Guest Jlall
Not scary to me at all, easy 3S. Passing is just terrible imo.
655321
3♠, can't imagine passing.
the hog
You have to bid 3S with this, even if partner is a passed hand.
andy_h
agree with auto 3S
MFA
3♠. Bread and butter, we must get the spade suit in. I could imagine much scarier things than this 3♠ bid.
SoTired
p (3H) 3S (4H) p (p) ? Anybody for 5C? Or only one risky bid per hand.
Guest Jlall
p (3H) 3S (4H) p (p) ? Anybody for 5C? Or only one risky bid per hand. lol, I wouldn't use the word "risky" to describe a 5C bid there.
