the hog
Still Imps. This time all vul.Your opponents are top players, but they play a VERY freewheeling style; eg open most 15-17 hands with 1N, singletons and all. (1N) 2D* (3N) X all pass Your 2D bid was a transfer to S [hv=s=sq98xxhaqxxxdxcqx]133|100|[/hv] After partner's double, it occurs to you that despite having discussed most arcane sequences during the past 6 months, this X is undiscussed. Oi vey! What do you lead? (Warning! 30+ imps hang on this!)
Free
♠Q, to catch a possible stiff J. Partner should have something in ♠ I think, and I still have my ♥ finesse to get back to my hand... (I also 'feel' something for ♣Q, just don't know why)
inquiry
(Warning! 30+ imps hang on this!) Why do I have this problem? What kind of system is 2♦ shows spades.. you mean here I sit with an offensive hand opposite a partner with good values and I have no way to show my two suited hand. I am sorry, I guess if you forced me to bid this way, I would simply close my eyes and bid 4♥. Now the problem will not allow me to do that either... so I have to guess what the deal is. My big problem is where are the minors, and what was partner's double. Generally this double should be lead your suit partner, but again, where are the minors if parnter has a big spade fit? Someone would have run. Maybe partner's double was I think we got-em and work it out. I think the "We haven't discussed it" answer with a regular partner isn't too sound, since what does double of a volunteer 3NT bid means is bridge 101... So I allow you had pickup partner.... :-) Ok with pickup partner and no idea of his tendency, I guess he is doubling on power not for spade lead (expect that without the double). So I am going to eliminate spade as choice.... A diamond is tempting, but too risky, so I am going to do what bridge players ahve done since the game started. I am gonig to lead fourth from my longest and strongest suit. Since spades and hearts are both five cards, I think AQ fifth is stronger than Q9 fifth, I am going to lead a ♥. the hog
OK Ben; this IS your regular pd. This is one sequence you forgot to discuss. Does this make a difference to your answer? Incidentally, the defence to 1N is called SOAP. Believe it or not, it works well. With 4+H and no great S fit, pd bids 2H, just as he would bid 2D with 4S over your 2C transfer to H. JRG
I feel like I'm being wound up  In my partnerships this would mean "Lead your suit partner. Don't listen to the opponents, listen to me. I repeat LEAD YOUR SUIT." Having said that, though I agree basically with what Ben said, I'd bash down the ♥A. I'm making the assumption that if the ♥s are going to run, they are going to run and whether I lead small or the Ace will not make any difference. However, if that is the incorrect lead, I'm hoping that it will not be too late and that I can figure out what to do next based on the appearance of dummy and partner's signal. Basically, based on The_Hog's comments, I'm going to treat this as a gambling 3NT. Hey, forget about his comments, I feel better about bashing the ♥A all the time. Hope this is not the only lead to allow them to make it :-(
mishovnbg
-------------------------Hi all!My lead will be 9♠. In my partnerships it mean I had suitable change of lead if he take the trick. P still need to figure ♥ switch, but after my lead and look at dummy will probably not so hard. ----------------------------------------------Misho
the hog
[hv=w=skthjxxdxxxxcajtx&e=sxhkt7dakjxxxckxx]266|100|[/hv] I told you they played a freewheeling style. I posted this because in my last pd the X would have said "Don't lead your suit". I was interested in how others treat this.
Trpltrbl
Ugh, I haven't discussed that either, but I think I would still lead a ♠. Mostly because I think the X is asking to ignore opps. Question is which ♠ to lead, I think 4th will be the best in long run. Mike :D
