Lead

I guess I go A, agreeing with the previous comment. I would be tempted to try a trump in the hopes that partner's expected heart length combined with a trump lead might leave declarer short of the requisite number of tricks (I'm sure there's something wrong with that thinking and will check back to read about it). At the table, I'm positive I could find a way to go -1370.

Both vul (I think), dealer on your right, expert opponents

KQJT9xx x x AJ9x

(1) 4 (DBL) P

(5) P (6) P

(P) P

  • At teams, IMO, K = 10, A = 8, = 6.
    Opponents have had little room to explore, so they may be out of their depth.
  • At pairs, IMO, there is a better case for A

Not that interesting I guess. Not sure what I would have led but club lead loses, although not for any of the reasons mentioned (spade needing to be set up or they have two unavoidable club losers). It lost because they needed the club king to throw a heart loser. The hand was approximately this:

[hv=d=s&v=b&n=saxxxhqxdaj9xxxcx&w=skqjt9xxhxdxcaj9x&e=sxhkjxxdxxcqtxxxx&s=sxhat9xxxdkqtxckx]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv]

Your teammates doubled 4 and after a club lead found the ruff to set it one. This was from a recent Cayne match.

Interesting hand.

Goes down in 4 on a club lead if the defense gets the club ruff.

Goes down in 4 if the defense never leads club as long as the defense doesn't let declarer get a heart trick in dummy. Defense must score a trick in each suit.

I guess I wasn't sure that double was penalty there (was it?). I thought if cards or takeout, North might be 1255 or 1264. Curious that North didn't bid 5 on the way to slam as a grand looks like a favorite opposite x AKxxxx KQxx Ax. Then again, South might jump to 6 with that hand. That's enough rambling from me on this interesting hand.
