han
I have a good trick for that too. I just say "I had to bid this way because it seemed right to me". Partner rolls his eyes and on we go.
hrothgar
Does anybody think it is a good idea to try for 3NT from partner's side? Does anybody have a method to do so? I have the disturbing feeling that 3NT might be the best game, however, I have no idea how to intelligently explore it as a posisble game. Worse yet, I have the ugly feeling that exploring for 3NT might help the defense more than it helps us. For what its worth, I normally play that 2NT is forcing, designed to explore for strain. Partner clarifies trump length 4♣+ = 4 card support, Club fragment3N = 3 card support, little interest in a Moyisan3♠ = 4 card Spade support and a minimum3♥ = 3 Spades and short clubs3♦ = 3 Spades and a minimum 3♣ = 3 Spades and short Hearts
Echognome
I can't remember the hands, but at our table my partner passed 2♠ and at the other table Bocchi bid 2♠ over 1♦ showing an invitational hand with 6♠ (at least that's what I think teammates heard it as). I remember having 4=3=4=2 or 4=2=4=3 14 count with Qxxx of spades (so wastage) and pretty good controls. I felt an invite of some kind was warranted, but just shrugged it off at the table.
