han
This hand is quite strong but what else can you do? I think I would bid 1NT regardless.
P_Marlowe
1NT. Against a precision style 1D (showing 2+) I bid1NT as well, but now for us the meaning is different,it would show a 2-suiter with spades+? and 11+ HCP.But I would bid 1NT as well, if it is stil natural. With kind regardsMarlowe
andy_h
1NT for me as well. No, 1D being precision does not affect my answer.

hrothgar
Both red imps. Axxx Ax AKJxx Jx RHO opens 1D, what's your call? What if 1D was precision style and showed only 2+ diamonds, does that affect your answer? Hi Justin Here's a couple quick thoughts: Lets assume that the opponents are playing a standard style in which a 1♦ nopening promises 4+ Diamonds unless 4=4=3=2. In this case, partner is quite likely to hold short Diamonds. In theory, you might consider passing, planning on converting partner's balancing double. I think that there is something to be said for this plan. If LHO takes a bid then you know that partner is comletely broke. If starts (1♦) - P - (P) - P, then partner is either broke (in which case defending is fine) or balanced (in which case defending is fine). I'm not sure whether I would pass at the table, but I certainly consider it a reasonable choice of actions. Now, lets assume a Precision context in which 1♦ shows 2+ Diamonds (or in some cases 1+ or even 0+ Diamonds). I think that 1NT is much more attractive opposite a Precision pair. 1. Its a lot more likely that RHO has short diamonds, decreasing the chance that partner will be able to balance based on shape 2. In my experience, Precision pairs are more likely to respond to a 1♦ opening than players using more natural methods. In turn, this means that you'll garner a lot less information if LHO choses to bid. I consider 1NT much more clear cut over a Precision 1♦ opening. YMMV
Apollo81
1NT either way with this hand. Against Precision if my minors were reversed then I would still overcall 1NT. I wouldn't do that against a Standard diamond.
neilkaz
1NT for me as well. No, 1D being precision does not affect my answer. Yep. Agreed.. and even if Precision 2+, opener usually has D's and won't defeat us in ♣
Finch
My concern over a Precision diamond is that the hand is too good for 1NT. I'd consider x followed by 1NT over 1H. Over a natural 1D I agree with 1NT.
Guest Jlall
So, my opp passed (over a prec diamond), then after 1N p p he doubled. LHO XXed and his partner bid 2C. Do you pass this? If LHO doubles do you run?

SoTired
Justin, was it really necessary to insult a confused reader? Was it that hard to clarify: 1D p 1N p p X XX 2C p ?Or1D p 1N pp X XX 2Cp p X pp ?
Stephen Tu
Justin, before you call people out for stupidity, in the same sentence you are referring to your opponent holding this hand as an opponent, then calling your partner "LHO", instead of "this hand's LHO" or "opponent's LHO". Be consistent!

Please don't incite him - he's been in a rather docile mood lately.

Anyway let me help. So, my opp [holding the problem hand at the table] passed (over a prec diamond), then after [his chosen call of pass it continued] 1N p p [which] he doubled. [His] LHO XXed and his partner bid 2C. Do you pass this [if you are holding the problem hand in this situation]? If [your] LHO doubles do you run? You will notice in the original post, "he" and "his" always referred to the same person (the subject of the story), and "LHO" always referred to the LHO of that same person. I believe that was done for the convenience of the reader. I hope that clears up any confusion.

SoTired
sheesh, what was that? a dozen extra posts to justify calling someone stupid. There is no justification. If you don't want to bother clarifying your English, don't. But why spend so much effort "proving" that your silly shorthand description was clear? So why pound on a person? That is just plain rude and unncessary. I know a world-class bridge player who can't cut-and-paste properly to save his life. I know a person who can have a one hour phone conversion and repeat it almost verbatim the next day, point-by-point, yet can't remember Ogust. Actually, I would call someone stupid who cannot realize that they may not have been clear to all readers.
cnszsun
Can we go back to bridge, all guys? So, my opp passed (over a prec diamond), then after 1N p p he doubled. When you pass at 2nd seat over one level suit opening and double later, you always have a trap pass hand. Is this treatment expert standard?
