You are south. LHO opened 1C strong, RHO bid 1S GF 5+ spades. You overcalled 2H. P P RHO doubled which was defined as "takeout." When asked for clarification they said it didn't promise the unbid suits, but requests partner bid something. LHO bid 3D, and RHO bid 3N.

You led the C9 rusinow, declarer tanked for an hour and played the jack, queen, small. Partner returned the club 6, 7, T, ace.

Declarer now played 4 rounds of spades, partner winning the jack. You pitched 2 hearts (encouraging), and dummy pitched 2 diamonds. Partner returns the heart 9 to your king. What do you play?

Everyone at the table is an expert, you trust partner very much, and this hand has taken about 15 minutes to play.

Just like Roger I don't see any reasonable hand where declarer can make after a heart return. A diamond return often gives it away and a club gives the contract if declarer has J10 of diamonds.

I'm placing RHO with KQxxx Axxx Jx xx OR KQxxx Axx Jx xxx. In the second case, leading a heart gives declarer 9 tricks-plays the Q, enters hand with A hearts, cashes the spade, and hooks the 5 of clubs for 4 spades, 2 hearts, 3 clubs.

The hearts are blocked so declarer can't cash two hearts.

I agree with the others and exit a heart.

Yes obviously if you play a heart then they are down, but the question is what do you play.

Guys, why did partner play the 9 of hearts?

Results: I thought, and think, that partner should play a low heart back unless he wants us to shift to diamonds so I played the DQ hoping for down 3 (or possibly 4). Declarer had Jx of diamonds so they made. Partner agrees he gave the wrong signal.
