AdOut
How about providng the number of boards remaining when inviting people tosub? This will allow them to decide better if they want to stay that long, or not before agreeing to sub.
Dwingo
On a similar topic , I have made some suggestions on the Topic "Deleting players from sublist" in the Forum "Suggestions for software". I am quoting from that post 1. Whenever I add myself to the sublist, I do not kibitz the tournament. I normally minimise the BBO screen and do some e-mail or something, waiting for the sub call. A sub not responding may not be deliberate. The person may not be aware of his call. A SUGGESTION FOR SOFTWARE : When you get the pop-up message on the screen, let the BBO application ( if it is minimised ) open up ( Maximize automatically ) so that the intended sub cannot miss it. If this is accompanied with a loud bang, all the better. 2. I must confess that when I add myself to the sublist, I quickly enter a table in play, just to see how many rounds / deals have been completed so that I know what will be my time committment needed when I accept subbing. I make sure I only see the Top left corner where the Round clock is displayed and I don't even have a glimpse of the cards. A SUGGESTION FOR SOFTWARE : When you register as sub you get a message "You are now registered as sub. " Along with this message if there is a note " Tournament say Fun Fishy or so - 12 Rounds / 24 Deals Timed in Progress. Currently on Round 4 / Deal 7 ." If I know , I cannnot be online for that long a time, I can quickly unregister as sub, without peeping into the tables that are playing 3.As a side note : If you are playing as a sub, are you obliged to finish the tournament?, or are we allowed to leave after playing a few deals ( after informing the director ). Because the software records only the last played sub ( for the results purposes) , I don't want Directors to keep track of subs dropping out ( intentional disconnects being monitored here ) as Directors will not be able to identify, whether a particular player is an originally registered player or a Sub who has joined inbetween. A SUGGESTION FOR SOFTWARE: Can the sub be differentiated with a different colour ? so that the players at the table, Director, can all identify the subs. Also the results , highlighting the results of subs in a different colour will be great. In most cases, I am substituting for a player who is not doing well and end up at the bottom of the pack. My friends have a good laugh.
dodzi
Better still, can we have an indication on the tournament list of how many boards and how many played, e.g. 7/12 so we can see before deciding to register as a substitute? I concur with the suggestion that subs should be indicated as such in the final results list. There do seem to be those players that depart with 1 or 2 boards remaining, leaving the sub to inherit a score of 30% or so.
Frosty
Agree that one should check the tourney length and status before signing up to sub. This CAN be inhibited if the TD has chosen to block kibs though. Also think its a great idea to give subs the length and status at the point of sign-up if possible. I also wish that a sub had a way when signing up to indicate his/her willingness to be removed for a returning player should the situation arise that warrants it. Despite the fact that we are often stuck in at the bottom of the barrel to replace someone who didn't want to be there, there are times when someone who has good prospects for placing in a tourney simply gets booted and is disappointed not to be able to finish. My policy is to allow a sub to finish and not to return players who've disconnected. This creates a friendly environment for the subs and makes it easier to find players willing to fill in. On the other hand, a sub may be just fine with playing a hand and then stepping aside - as TD there isn't a way to find that out without a lot of chitty-chat which can be distracting.
