pclayton
white / red at IMPs - long matches ♠A52 ♥J ♦AJT3 ♣AQJ76 (1♥) - dbl - (1♠) - 2♠(3♥) - ? A double of 1♠ would show exactly 4 spades, so 2♠ shows more than that. What now?
mikeh
If double would be understood as a game try (I think that is it's best use, but I doubt that it is standard...more importantly, I don't know if this partnsership has discussed it), then that is perfect. However, since it is perfect, my guess is that the problem is posed because we don't have that club in our bag. The problem with 3♠ is that it really is more competitive than invitational, because we would often (usually?) bid 3♠ here on moderate 4=1=4=4 hands, playing for the 9 card fit to afford safety. Which, of course, is why the game-try double is so sensible. So I think I have to overbid, via a confident, in tempo 4♠... hopefully I anticipated this when partner bid 2♠, and, anyway, I hope that I am a deliberate player such that I never make any call rapidly, so have a few seconds here anyway. cherdano
I voted 4♠. It could even be a good save.
whereagles
4♠ seems clear. Has a decent chance even if pard has some junk like KQxxxxxxxxxxx
gnasher
4♠. I don't think it's an overbid - KQ10xx xxx Qxx xx makes game excellent.
mike777
4s, thought wtp I hope partner does not make free bids just to tell me about leads....
benlessard
With 5S and a so-so hand can partner X 1S ?. I mean there are hand with 5S not strong/shapely enough to bid 2S and it would be sad to pass them because my X show exactly 4S with no exception. If so partner is showing real values for his 2S and i have an easy 4S. Otherwise im a bit stuck. Ill probably bid 4S anyway.
gnasher
With 5S and a so-so hand can partner X 1S ?. It would be normal to play that he can.
andy_h
4♠. I don't think it's an overbid - KQ10xx xxx Qxx xx makes game excellent. agree
brianshark
3 bullets, a singleton, a potential source of tricks, most hands partner can have make game reasonable. Seems like a 4♠ bid to me.
