I'll go with 6. It seems so likely that they are making a slam somewhere, unless their spades are 1-1 AND partner finds an outside trick. Surely I'm not letting them play small slam, so lets bid this now and we can always choose to sack against grand later if they bid that.

No way am I bidding 7.. why assume that we have no defensive trick?

4 is just too wussy... if either has a void, and extras, I leave them both a 5 cue... and while that will pave the way for a 7 save, why not try to avoid the necessity?

5 takes away the cue bid from both of them, but leaves me wanting to bid 6 next round, unless they double and sit.. and then I allow at least LHO to show a void.

OTOH, 6.... who knows what their agreements are? Even if LHO holds a void, does he have enough stuff to invite grand? Maybe it's rho who is heavy? And when LHO has one or more spades, he virtually has to double.. I mean, is this even a forcing pass situation for them?

So 6, expecting to go -800.

Well, I think that against LOLs, 5 is the winning bid - they'll probably double us and won't bid their slam. However, against anyone I think knows what they're doing I think I might as well bid 6 straight away or, maybe, muck about with 4N.

It's hard to say 'what' the winning bid was but I pulled out the 6 card.

Matt had Q9xxxxx void Ax JTxx. Spades were 1-1, but diamonds were 4-2 in the club bidders hand. Clubs were 6-3 with Qxx on your right. The defense was, er, questionable. +1660.

I would not be happy if LHO 'guessed' to bid 6 over 5. In 6 we can expect 9.5 - 10 tricks on many layouts which shows a profit against even a game.

Seems like it was your hand after all. If spades are 1-1 and D 4-2 they have no way to defeat 6S.

pull 1 round of trumps. A and low D. the 4th club will be discarded on the 5th D.

Actually no. The defense can tap out dummy's diamond suit with repeated club leads.

And on the actual layout, LHO has 1=2=4=6 and can promote the K with a 3rd diamond.
