pard opens 2 first seat MP's none vulnerable. You can assume he has 6 cards. Also, this is an individual tournament and it's quite probable that all three players make unreliable decisions. Do you raise to 3?

I bid 3 LHO doubled on his strong NT RHO bid 4 ending the auction, which easily made. 3NT goes down cause we have 2 aces to take before they take 9 tricks. so partner said "argh dude what was 3 good for, they'd <<find>> 3NT. were you afraid of spades??"

3 and it baffles me the way people give out to their partner like this, though it happens all the time in bridge. Any intermediate+ player should know that 3 is a reasonable (almost text-book) action with your hand. Even if said intermediate+ player wouldn't have taken the action him/herself, it should be obvious that it is reasonable and on another day might have worked out.
